2101  Other / Meta / Re: Poll on solving the imgur issue on: June 08, 2023, 07:02:56 PM
It's not that tiny, for the service in question. Especially at this early stage.
You have gathered 800k from a hosting, let's imagine that there are more than 800k together with the other services. Which indicates 1600k images listed from the forum. Let's round it up to 2000k images.
It's totally unrealistic to think TalkImg can all of the sudden replace all Imgur images after just few weeks of existence  Cheesy
In theory everything sounds great, just replace the links and everything will work perfectly, but nobody is financially helping this project and thinking about server costs.
Maybe it's better to replace all old Imgur images with Imgbb or Postimages for now, and later we an think about alternative slow moving to TalkImg.

2103  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor hacked (again) on: June 07, 2023, 10:08:31 PM
Coldcard sells its wallets with industrial grade SD cards
Colcard is not open source, so I don't trust them very much, and they don't include industrial SD cards for free like Passport does, so you have to pay extra for them  Roll Eyes

Comparison with Audi is not appropriate here, since a person paid a lot of money for luxury, and not for reliability. If he had bought a basic Toyota, then he would have had no problems with repairs in the early years.
Excuse me but that is nonsense, I could easily replace word Audi with any other modern car brand or equipment, new stuff is mostly junk full of electronics with intentional bugs.
This can be said for everything, check out the video testing modern vs old bricks and concrete:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_LgrbAsoME

Now let's get back on topic of Trezor hack.
2104  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Seed Generation in Hardware Wallets on: June 07, 2023, 10:03:06 PM
@dkbit98
could you add Specter DIY and SeedSigner please?
Sure, but I don't remember exact process of generating seed phrase for this DIY devices you mentioned.
You can write how this is done for both devices with one sentence and source link, than I will add separate section for DIY devices, Krux will probably be there also.

PS
For some reason I am currently not able to open SeedSigner website, and I see it's online for other people.

2106  Economy / Goods / Re: Bitcoin t-shirts on: June 07, 2023, 08:33:47 PM
I'm really surprised you don't see the option in the checkout page.
Yeah, well Bitcoin is not mentioned anywhere on website, btc logo is not in footer of main page, and I didn't saw that section in checkout page.
Maybe the reason is because I didn't fill up all my personal information and shipping address in checkout page, and this shows up later.
Good that you are using BTCPay Server, but my suggestion is to add clearly visible bitcoin payment options in places I mentioned.

We can resell anything that is available on https://aliexpress.com/, if anybody has any requests please let us know!
Should we contact you on website with email or some other way, and what are the prices compared to Aliexpress?
I also know another website that cloned Aliexpress website with similar name, and they accept bitcoin and crypto payment.

Can you please check the website again? I would really appreciate it if you can help me solve this issue!
I did check again, entering random data and Pay with BTCPAY logo showed up, so it's working ok.

I've removed the Binance items from the site.
You didn't have to remove it but they are not very popular right now.
Maybe making custom made tshirts would be cool  Wink
2107  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: “Out of Energy ”issues on: June 07, 2023, 05:25:36 PM
Imam u jednom svojem Atomic walletu nešto USDT (trc20) i nešto sitno TRX da pokrije fee, ali prilikom pokušaja slanja dobijem obavijest o “Out of Energy” issues.
Closed source = malware.
2108  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how to receive L-BTC from exchanges to Electrum wallet on: June 06, 2023, 08:33:36 PM
where to trade altcoins if you dont use an exchange  Undecided
im trading in exchanges then withdrawing my earnings to my Electrum wallet
Use decentralized exchanges, p2p trading, and don't waste time with bunch of shitcoins.

You can find some tools for non-kyc trading on kycnot.me website.
2109  Economy / Goods / Re: Bitcoin t-shirts on: June 06, 2023, 07:57:49 PM
Some cool Bitcoin t-shirts at https://nakamoto.market. They accept Bitcoin.

Use code BITCOINTALK at checkout to receive a 50% discount for the next 7 days.
Is this your website or you are affiliated with them?
Problem is that I don't see any option to pay with Bitcoin, only paypal, cards, google & apple pay are available in checkout page.
I also don't see information from what country is everything shipped.

PS
I sure won't buy those binance branded stuff  Tongue
2110  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: A Non-Custodial wallet, Atomic Wallet, being compromised on: June 06, 2023, 07:34:53 PM
Update: So it looks like the stolen funds (~35M $) are on the move:
Crazy!
Number grows with every new day and who knows how many people don't even know or they didn't report loses.
It's important not to open atomic wallet that is connected to internet, than import seed phrase backup to another wallet and move coins asap.
Few years ago I tested this atomic wallet and I never liked how it works, but closed source and amateur devs was always a red alert for me.
2111  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Are there any smartphones out there that are hard wallets too? on: June 06, 2023, 07:27:58 PM
Based on what I had found is that the trezor model is a type of hardware wallet that can be connected to any smartphone via usb, which allows you to transfer cryptocurrency even offline. Apart from this, the Samsung is also possible, because it has features called knox vault.
Trezor only works with Android devices an not with with iPhones, and that is huge market share of smartphone.
I wouldn't agree that Samsung phones are safu just because they have knox vault, because it is bundled with bunch of crap and it's closed source device both hardware and software.
Optional alternative is Pixel phone that can run open source GrapheneOS, they also have secure storage and they used some of Samsung chips.
Problem with many smartphones is also short support, so they can soon become unusable unlike dedicated hardware wallets or even older laptop computers that run Linux OS.

2112  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Recovery - Send your (encrypted) recovery phrase to 3rd parties entities on: June 06, 2023, 07:21:47 PM
The question is now which government will get to your coins first Wink But that's not even my biggest concern: what are the odds 2 out of 3 "seed storage facilities" will get hacked, leak data, or have an inside job rob users? If this takes off, there are billions of dollars worth of crypto to steal.
If you are like DeKwon than you can try his tactics of swallowing hardware wallet (or seed phrase) when police comes for you... than you can play the bail game with government  Cheesy

The one good thing in all this is that Ledger has proven that secure elements are not to be trusted and aren't safe. Not in a Ledger or any other hardware wallet.
That was my point all along since I am following that subject for a while.
Secure element is almost worthless if it is closed source, since they have signed NDA with manufacturer they can do whatever they want and they must cooperate with government parasites.

With the discussion of 2 out of 3 custodians being compromised, don't forget that this set up has a single point of a failure, and the breach of this single point of failure is enough to steal your coins.
I think this is also a flaw of Shamir Secret Sharing scheme (that ledger is planning to use), that is trying to mimic multisig setup as a poor man choice.
If they used proper Multisig setup maybe single point of failure could be avoided, even with this stupid Recover feature.
2113  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Passport Official Thread on: June 06, 2023, 07:07:08 PM
Not a re-write, a completely new piece of software/firmware is necessary for the next device, will be very clear why when we announce it Smiley
Interesting news... when can we expect this new devices to come out in public?

Looks like the cheapest reseller in EU is BitcoinBrabant  which offers it for € 329,95 € 259,95, the fair price as to me (I have paid ~ €80 more at time of purchase). You should hurry up if your intention is serious as "Batch 2 is limited to 2400 units."
I think I saw better deals in one more seller from Europe that was giving nice discounts if paid with Bitcoin, but I can't find it right.
They are registered in forum and I think their shop is located in Poland, but last time I checked they offered other hardware wallets also, not just Passport.
It's a good idea to find coupons and discounts if you can.

EDIT: It's shopinbit.com, they have 3% discount but Passport is currently unavailable.

2114  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Jade DIY hardware wallet on: June 06, 2023, 07:02:51 PM
That is that is because your not thinking like a paranoid tinfoil hat person. Also keep in mind that compromising device like this would not just be about compromising a hardware Bitcoin wallet, it would be about compromising thousands of IoT things that could be anywhere doing anything giving who knows whom access to who knows what.
On contrary, I am thinking like a paranoid tinfoiler most of the time, but I am realistic about this subject.
If you think this devices are compromised than you shouldn't use your smartphone, laptop or any other electronic device for anything related with bitcoin....since you are 100% ''paranoid tinfoil hat person''.

But why risk it, which is why I and then you pointed out that anybody getting these should only be buying them from m5stack.com or their approved suppliers.
Better don't risk anything and don't use bitcoin at all, your computer and smartphone are compromised already  Shocked
2115  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor hacked (again) on: June 06, 2023, 06:58:43 PM
I don't expect something even in 2024. Until then it's vaporware.
It's far from vaporware if they already have new chips ready for testing and they officially said new devices should be released in the time I said.
They recently published information with chip photographs and they started doing internal testing for all people working in Trezor.
It's not like they are inventing wheel all over again, they are just open sourcing the chips from experienced chip manufacturer.

Looking at the steep price jump from Trezor Model One to Model T, I'm not particularly confident that a new Trezor device with secure element will be moderately priced. But we might see maybe some basic SE Model and something as fancy as the Model T, now with SE and maybe camera, too? There is competition in the HW market and that's good.
New-gen Trezor device wont be cheap, that's for sure, but I would be ok with price around $200 to $300.

Industrial SD cards are quite reliable. These cards use pSLC technology rather than the cheap QLC found in conventional cards. Such cards are significantly more expensive, but this can be quite commensurate with your bitcoin investment. In addition, you should not forget about backups by placing them on cards from different manufacturers.
Yeah they are, until they stop working like all new flash storage devices.
Most new stuff made today is trash and it stops working right after warranty expires, happened to me and people I know many times.
One guy purchased brand new luxury Audi in 2021 (with Bitcoin), year after alternator died, and ever since he is going in service each months for electronic issues.
They are making most new electronic stuff shiny from the outside with intentional time-ticking error-bomb.
2116  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: IS ATOMIC WALLET HACK OR SCAM? 🔴 Immediately Withdraw your Funds on: June 05, 2023, 08:08:22 PM
You know situation with Atomic wallet is bad when you see Bleepingcomputer starts to write articles about it, with people losing over $35 million in crypto.
Someone said that there was a malware in one of recent download files so you should NOT open your Atomic wallet if you still have connected to internet, once you connect they have your seedphrase.
Solution is to use seed words from Atomic, import them to another wallet and move coins asap to different device, best hardware wallet.
Good alternative for Atomic wallet is open source wallet called Unstoppable, if you want to mess around with other coins, not just BTC.

2117  Other / Meta / Re: [Bitcointalk Party - Discord sv] Bitcoin Pizza bake-off contest! Enter by June 1 on: June 05, 2023, 08:00:04 PM
Guys, which @LoyceV and @JayJuanGee pizzas? What are you talking about?
It could be some paparazzi took a secret shot of LoyeV purchasing a pizza in his local shop, and they thought he became pizza master just for our contest.
I heard some people say Dutch pizza is now better than Italian pizza Shocked Yeah cool story I know.  Cool
Other guy maybe got inspired by lemon and potato puke special pizzas.
2118  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how to receive L-BTC from exchanges to Electrum wallet on: June 05, 2023, 07:43:26 PM
+ im just looking for a way to withdraw my btc earnings from binance to electrum with low fees
Why don't you just receive your earning directly in your wallet with BTC mainchain, instead of trusting centralized exchange and paying them fees for withdrawing?
You can use lightning network to withdraw, but to have this full trustless you will need to run your own Bitcoin node and connect Lightning wallet, or else you are just trusting another third party.
One thing you should NOT do, and that is withdrawing BTC using any other centralized blockchain that has fake bitcoin tokens (binance chain, erc20 chain, etc.).
2119  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do beginners know what closed & open source wallets are? on: June 05, 2023, 07:37:32 PM
I read some guide posts about custodial vs. non-custodial wallets but only a few about open vs. closed source. I often read them brought up by other users in the comments. I think many beginners don't have the slightest idea about the difference between closed and open source yet. I don't claim to be an expert on this but I will try to highlight that in this post based on what I understand so far.
I was advocating open source wallets for years and people told me several times that I am to extreme with this approach, but look what is happening with closed source wallets.
They get hacked, infected by malware all the time and who knows what else is happening below the hood, since nobody can check the code.
There is a high chance closed source hardware wallets have some hidden code or backdoor that can remain dormant for years and just waits to be activated.

Few more good examples of less known non-custodial open source wallets are Sparrow wallet, Airgap wallet, Unstoppable wallet, etc.
