and Neptune "scarce?"    batch 3 Neptunes  still up for preorder, and many Neptunes have been delivered, while not a single SP30 has hit the public yet.
Care to re-phrase or explain that statement a bit more because I see exactly the opposite?

From what I understood KnC hasn't shipped the whole batch 0 neptunes, while SP30 will be here on time. The fact that KnC still has batch 3 Neptunes still up for preorder with Q3 delivery doesn't mean that they can deliver on time just like they did with batch 0.

Let me know when you get your ROI with your Neptune.
Oh... Well, I had 2 batch zero(CA) come thru Phoenix-ville to be reshipped to the person who bought them,
and my brothers 2 neptunes were in the late-middle of batch one, which arrived July 9th. (flew over on 10th and had them running steady before midnight after a quick birthday party)
I naturally am led to believe all batch 0 and most of batch one had been delivered before the "chip shortage" was announced

I doubt they had gotten trough batch 0 without all the refunds however, seems to be some terrible early yields for 20nm :/

Yeah, I surely expected a higher hashrate than around 680-700Gh/s per asic(3500Gh/s  /5)
but its still above and beyond the 150Gh/s average on the 28nm Jupiter series asics.(600Gh/s  /4)
So a single 20nm Neppie asic actually hashes faster than an entire Jupiter! (4-----28nm's)
So I'm not really going to agree with "Terrible early yields" just because our dreams of a 6th/s Neptune didn't come true...
The 20nm asic is pretty good actually imho...   but who else has another 20nm asic to compare it to?      Nobody!

Oh Wait!!!  We'll have double Neppie deal 6Th/s per order at least (someday)... lol

They are definitely pretty good.. when they work. You had better luck than I did, I'm weeks into an RMA for two cubes and a controller card that didn't function. I finally received the controller card but absolutely no news on the cubes.

I'm getting the same crap from KfC; not as bad as you but I have a dead die on a cube so it's running at 75% speed. KfC admitted that it's not working properly but refuse to do anything because they say the malfunctioning machine is over 3TH anyway.

I'm now planning to dump it in my buddies Novec and see if I can kick it into action with massive over voltage.

So I'm not really going to agree with "Terrible early yields" just because our dreams of a 6th/s Neptune didn't come true...

Yeild, as in number of usable chips out of the number on the wafer... not the speed of the chips that do work.

I don't believe they would have skipped that step after fabbing "an industry-first" 20nm ASCI chip.  That would have been downright negligent.  More likely the binning was done and most of the chips ended up in the bin.

^
In case some people didn't understand Smiley

The thing that interests me is whether they ordered enough chips for batches 0, 1 & 2 AND their new datorhalls? If they only managed to squeeze out batch 0 and part of batch 1 from all that, then it's a disaster.

Or did they know the first batch of chips was going to be very poor yield, so ordered only enough for the customer batches?

On Monday it will be 4 weeks since kfc furtively announced they ran out of chips. They spit in their customers faces by not making any announcement for 4 weeks and keeping customers waiting in silence, I think it's disgraceful.

They could have shipped 3TH 28nm miners to their customers in January/February, to truly give their customers the edge.

But they went down the 20nm path to further their OWN greedy plans to have low energy devices for their own cloud hashing mining empire. They screwed over all their customers, new and old.

The fact that they have to throw most of their 20nm chips out in the garbage is poetic justice. I hope 20nm is a massive money pit for them and the Swedish government obliterate them with taxes  Grin That's how most gangsters get caught, in the end Wink

It would be pretty amazing if Knc switched directions and starting selling in stock hardware that ships immediately for a reasonable price.

I would buy a Neptune right now if it was ~$1/GH and shipped immediately, but their current batch 3 pricing is a joke (~$2/GH with an unspecified shipping date).

The Neptune is very competitive from a performance standpoint with other hardware on the market, and they would sell like hotcakes if they were priced competitively and sold from stock like Bitmain.

Hi,

The bonus Neptune will be sent after batch 3 miners are shipped (as discussed above). Batch 3 Neptune miners are expected to start shipping in August (exact date to be announced soon)

That's impossible.
You stopped the production and shipping of Batch 1 because you don't have enough 20nm chips.
Part of Batch 1 and Batch 2 have not been shipped yet.

You said in the news and in the selling page of Batch 3, that Batch 3 will be shipped 1 mouth after Batch 2.
With the Batch 2 that didn't even start to ship yet, you expect to start shipping Batch 3 in August ?!

It's a lie. KNC is a lie !

I'm glad my lawyer got me a refund.
Cost me around 1000€ in the beginning, but at the end, I got back a full refund of my order and KNC had to pay for my lawyer.

AFox, did you file in Sweden? How long did the whole process take?
I hired a lawyer in my country (France) specialized in European law.
It took two weeks.

I don't know how the lawyer did it.
He just asked for the invoice from KNC, my IBAN (account informations) and my identity card.

The interesting thing, is that I paid in BTC, but KNC issued me an invoice in USD and paid me back by bank transfer in USD.

So you basically made money?   Paid 11 btc or so, and got $10,000 back (which would buy 16.6 btc now)?
Brilliant, instead of buying a machine that makes bitcoin, you invented a refund process that makes even MORE bitcoing the machine.

@AFox, congrats for your success but... we'd like to make your lawyer even richer than he probably is... and it would be great!   Grin

Could you please forward to me his contacts/details? It would be fantastic to have the support of a competent and already informed lawyer "against" such scam-hole that KfC became........

If you'd need my PGP pub_key, you can find it on pgp.mit.edu

Looking foreard for your kind reply, thanks in advance!   Smiley

For those in my boat with a corsair 1200i they may have considered for use on the Neptune (don't work see post below) and or the Titan (see post below)

I got this reply from Kurt at KNC Forums...so definitely don't get this for the Neptune and probably not a good idea for the Titan either

again for people in my boat who may have one of these lying about ..they 'thought' they could likely use with the Titan...er not looking likely now imho

Kurt's reply to my question on the corsair 1200i and its use with a Titan...1st line is in regards to the Neptune...2nd line is in regards to the Titan....

I quote:

"To answer your additional questions, the 1200i is a multi rail power supply that cannot handle the frequency set at 425MHz, there is no fix for this as the power supply is inadequate.

We do not know the exact specifications of the Titan miner yet, so it is best to wait until final specs are released."

end quote:

Anyway just a heads up to those having these corsair 1200i units they planned to use with Titan (or Neptune) ...and/or to those who were gonna buy such.

Probably that would be a bad call imho...

anyway for your consideration

I do make adapters that would allow the for the use of 1200i PSUs with Neptunes and most likely Titans, Searing.  It just uses two PCIe cables instead of one and that bypasses the over current protection.
Definitely cheaper than buying whole new sets of PSUs.  They are in the wild now and no reported issues so far.  Check my post history in this thread for a pic.

It would be interesting to hear what your lawyer actually did - is it possible to ask him or her for details to share?

Did your lawyer
- use European Consumer law to get refunds?
- point out kfc's terms and conditions were not legal and threaten to take them to court?
- simply point out kfc had a refund policy in their sales terms and that they could not legally withhold/delay a refund?
- something else?

I'm sure a lot of people would be interested, especially those poor folk still waiting 3 months for a refund.

ok will do so ...should probably just get the adapters now..for future use...likely this will come up again on another piece of equipment anyway and I already
have the corsair 1200I so wtf

ah the joys of 'stuff'

I don't know how the lawyer did it.
He just asked for the invoice from KNC, my IBAN (account informations) and my identity card.

Are we calling this company now KFC? Cheesy I mean, maybe you actually can fry something in immersion-cooled mining-tubs Cheesy

I should have gotten into Bitcoin back in 1992...

I'm running 1200i supplies no problem what-so-ever getting enough power to ASIC with Y splitter cables; they will even run single cable if you set 40A per rail in the software. Also they run very efficiently with two cubes per PSU.

It is not a multi rail PSU, it just has OCP (which is a good thing!).

The problem is not with the PSU, as KfC are trying to suggest, it's with their 100w per cable "design".

I spoke to Kurt before buying AX1200i, he told me they "should be fine" and I have a recording of the phone call so don't accept that answer! I was told in the same call that a single PCI-e would be fine and they hadn't had any problems using good quality cables because the socket is "fan cooled".

KfC still refuse to do anything about the dead die on my Neptune because it's over 3TH as it is; not exactly what one would call "over deliver".

On a side note I fried my first PCI-e plug at the board end today. Thankfully the OCP kicked in and prevented a possible fire but this was with 16AWG:

I'm glad my lawyer got me a refund.
Cost me around 1000€ in the beginning, but at the end, I got back a full refund of my order and KNC had to pay for my lawyer.

I would very much like to have a copy of his contact details; if he speaks English?
