Lucko since you can't be bothered reading.

I just updated pool's bitcoind to version 0.8.1, so the pool is ready for upcoming event.

And also
Code:
18059	2013-05-16 21:45:24	6:03:08	49008417	236506	25.45308667 confirmed
18058 2013-05-16 15:42:16 0:38:59 5254622 236475 25.02140000 confirmed
18057 2013-05-16 15:03:17 0:56:25 7557555 236470 25.42825800 confirmed
18056 2013-05-16 14:06:52 2:56:21 23425869 236462 25.13311785 confirmed
Which are after the date.

Also every pool has orphans it is as someone explained a few posts before. Could under connected bitcoind be the adding to to the issue maybe but  I would say unlikely.

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

But can you say that I'm wrong? No you can't!

What you're saying is the same as,

"I drove my car down the road and it broke down, therefore the road is broken. Hey everybody don't drive down there it's broken".

"But thousands of other cars are using the road perfectly well", someone replies.

"But can you say it wasn't the road that broke my car!" comes the response.

I've been mining with 50Ghs for the 11th day now. Can you please evaluate the below log of earnings?

Today I switched from diff8 to 6 and I think the rewards are coming more frequently and in a steadier manner. I plan to run it on 6 to get some more days worth of data to compare.

Do you think I should set it lower?

the last record has 9 hours to go as of this post. I had no downtime, expect 2 occasions when the miners spent a few minutes offline

Difficulty is pretty much just how big the calculation is that gets sent to you.
It's used to control the rate of communication from you to the server.

Rewards come in when a block is discovered so changing difficulty has no bearing whatsoever on frequency or steadiness.

I watched that auction for the 10gig blades - it was awesome. How are your 5 running? Are they stable with temp etc? So jelly.

A watched block never solves. I have paid close attention to this one and refreshed the stats page atleast 6 times. Expect a 6hr+ round.
My sincere apologies.

And the block blew just as you posted - right - next time we have a long round we need you to post a pessimistic estimate Smiley

From another pool admin that was sure his pool is ready... And one block was solved in that time that was confirmed. Only daemon was crashing from time to time. That could cause a invalid block also.

Things should be working now. There was some downtime about 3 hours ago, and 6 hours ago, when the bitcoin daemon crashed. I'll investigate the crashes later today. It seems odd for it to be stable right up until now, the switchover day for the block fork code, so I'll be looking in that area.

Edit: Belay that, we're going down for 5 minutes.

This one is from Slush

Regards to recent higher invalid ratio - it was caused by the move of bitcoind to another datacenter and by poorly connected bitcoind to outer world. I made some changes and bitcoind should be well connected now.

And we had only 2 in 3 days... not 6 to 7 in about 15. So it is reasonable assumption.

Not! More like other way around. Me saying that the road is OK...

Look at invalid blocks for last 15 days and from 15 days and to 90 days back. You will see much more invalide in last 15 days even if you don't take invalid blocks from hack out. But then again if you are a 15 years old you will newer accept that...

There is a problem with the pool and not sure why slush is not here to correct any issues.

What makes you say that? (Besides the chance that you may be Lucko's alter ego  Wink )

Well from 8th of May my daily reward dropped from 0.101 to 0.052 and no I'm not anyones alter ego.

Luck has been pretty bad recently like 3-4 days in a row.  Last 1/2 day was good crossing fingers it continues (already on 14th block).

Isn't it obvious what is happening? Our share of the Pie is shrinking: http://blockchain.info/pools

As the other pools increase in Hashing power, our Luck will get worse. Blocks will take longer to find. I suspect that the other pools are attracting more ASIC miners that ours. The way i see it, the only way to improve our returns is to increase our mining power.

oh, btw, does anyone know why are hash rate varies from about 9.6 Ths to 10. almost daily? People mining here only part of the day?

Based on statistics I collected, there is a daily, periodic fluctuation - my conclusion is that more than 20% of the miners only mine part of the day. Probably some are running it in the background during working hours (not dedicated mining rigs, but generic workstation with GPU), but the opposite (mining at night) might also make sense based on how they are charged for electricity, especially for dedicated beefy GPU rigs which eat a lot of power. In both cases, this will lead to a repeating pattern in total hashrate fluctuation.

Thanks, that makes sense. It also would account for funky returns on certain blocks, I think. If people are leaving/returning mid block, then the return on the block for people who were there the whole time might look odd.

Round 18077 is going to be invalid. BTCguild actually got it. Invalid blocks are brought about by a pool's bad connection to the network, right?

Ahh I see, yeah pool must be broke

So do you think that almost 50% drop for good few days in a row is normal? I know that luck is important, our hashing power is not increasing compare to other pools and we get smaller chunk of the pie, and difficulty is increasing but would that factor for such a difference? I was expecting drop in reward but not so quick and so much.

Measuring just a few days of earnings is not enough data to make any reasonable conclusions, especially at these difficulty levels and slush's pool speed.  "Luck" takes a significantly longer amount of time to "even out" than what most people think it does.

Yes and no. If it is one from time to time no but when you see 3 in 24 hours the answer can only be yes...
