Stupid Nubie question but can't find the answer. When doing a firmware upgrade from the s4 gui do I upload the .gz file or extract it to .tar first before uploading? TIA
the .gz file. Do not extract or it will not work.

I've got a few S4 that recently started having every single share discarded. All of them started this behavior at the exact same time. Temps are showing as 0, and all ASICs appear to be online. Any ideas? I tried reflashing the firmware, but that hasn't appeared to help. TIA.

Replied to your other post, we will get confused if we discuss it in two places.

I have few doubts again,, hope someone familiar with mining answers me this. - How can we understand the best share in s4? what does the value actually mean? High is good or low? - My miner is currently set to 8194 difficulty as suggested by my node owner. Is it good or bad? whats the difference between setting diffculty to 2048 or 4096 etc? In details please or any reference to post where it is explained. - I see that miners with same hash rate as me in p2pool are earning higher than me but i noticed that they are in different node. How come that is possible? Might be because i have higher difficulty set? or because i am in a bad node? Last question is, how do you maximise your earnings in mining, any specific things to follow? I see a strange guy who earns too much with a very low hashrate : http://minefast.coincadence.com/miner.php?id=1GRg24ishi4HMC5hoPzKaTmN25yu9bAAax&blockoffset=40this guy is doing some magic to earn that huge. any ideas on it? Proffesionals help is much appreciated. Thanks

Best share is reasonably meaningless, it just shows how close you've got to a block. High is better but its random luck. - My miner is currently set to 8194 difficulty as suggested by my node owner. Is it good or bad? whats the difference between setting diffculty to 2048 or 4096 etc? In details please or any reference to post where it is explained.
Lower difficulty = more work for the pool but less discarded shares for you. 1024 or 2048 would be most appropriate for you, but the node owner will want you to have a higher difficulty. - I see that miners with same hash rate as me in p2pool are earning higher than me but i noticed that they are in different node. How come that is possible? Might be because i have higher difficulty set? or because i am in a bad node?
Its random variance, aka luck. Last question is, how do you maximise your earnings in mining, any specific things to follow?
No Its random variance, aka luck.

Thanks Dogie for the replies. Please see my comments below highlighted. - My miner is currently set to 8194 difficulty as suggested by my node owner. Is it good or bad? whats the difference between setting diffculty to 2048 or 4096 etc? In details please or any reference to post where it is explained.

Why does the node owner want me to have a higher difficulty? Am i gonna profit anything by doing it? or him? or his node?
- I see that miners with same hash rate as me in p2pool are earning higher than me but i noticed that they are in different node. How come that is possible? Might be because i have higher difficulty set? or because i am in a bad node?
Its random variance, aka luck. So, no matter which node i am in, its random luck?Last question is, how do you maximise your earnings in mining, any specific things to follow?
No Its random variance, aka luck. I just noticed this guy has 21TH lol. But his miners in 2 different nodes, so the above link was showing only 1 of his miner in the node and TOTAL earnings in p2pool.Also does each miner has to be set a single worker or 3 miners with a single worker is fine?

If you want to earn the most BTC per hash, mine on P2Pool. Feel free to join me on my node here: http://69.157.250.149:9332/static/p2pool-node-status/It's a high efficiency, high power, low latency node. You'll earn more than any other pool with P2Pool, by a small amount. You also help decentralize bitcoin by mining on a decentralized pool. If you want to use my node, set up the following: Address: 69.157.250.149:9332 User name: 1KT2ceAEoMnpHMgRCoSW39teFQMBv4vebs+2050 (replace with your own BTC address. The +2050 specifies share difficulty, which is a good idea with S4s) Password: x Feel free to chose any other P2Pool node, or to set up your own at home! PM me if you want some tips on optimizing your S4 for best payouts using P2Pool, I'll be glad to help.

How does that work? Much better than antpool's "p2pool"..

I'm asking seriously Ok, sorry, I thought you were familiar with p2pool. I'm a little busy right now to get into it, so I suggest looking at this thread for a start: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=875644.0There' you'll see p2pool beating a pool that is 0% fee PPS with a 10% bonus added on top... So 110% PPS. There are plenty of other examples and explanations, if you're curious. I'll be happy to discuss it further with you later, by PM or skype if you'd like. As for myself, I've earned more using p2pool with my 5 S4s than I would have on a 0% PPS pool, easily.

You will earn slightly less [due to more discards] but he will have less load on his 'server'. So, no matter which node i am in, its random luck?
The larger the node's / pool's hashing power, then less random variance you will encounter. The lower the hash rate, the more ups and downs you will see in income, although over a long period it should average out. Also does each miner has to be set a single worker or 3 miners with a single worker is fine?
It does not have to be, but it is beneficial as then you can track the performance (or underperformance) of individual miners.

I assume it's a display bug and the frequency used here is 275, not 2,275.
