1681  Economy / Reputation / Re: Need community opinion regarding negative feedback. on: May 29, 2019, 06:32:39 AM
Just to clarify - Norm Macdonald is now a banned account. I don't believe they were associated with Swiss Miner. The plagiarized content they were banned for was something negative about Swiss Miner and this machine.
It's not uncommon for someone not associated with a product to bring it to the forums attention. Most companies don't care to do so themselves anymore.
1682  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: May 28, 2019, 09:01:13 PM
I'm still eagerly awaiting confirmed shipping, I spoke to them a few nights ago it's supposed to be shipped this week. I should also be seeing a PSU and bridge board to see if I can get my gimpy M10 to perform like the others. Overall they are not bad, but this delay is bothering me a bit, if June had been the ship or receive date I know I wouldn't have pre-ordered. I'm sure I'll be all smiles once I get that monster in the garage, but until then it's annoying.
1683  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium wallet lost pin on: May 28, 2019, 08:44:52 PM
Hey I don't use the wallet but you should actually look on this board - mycelium. To find it in the future you follow Development and Technical Discussion -> Wallet Software -> Mycelium

You can move this thread there following the same path, you just have to select the option at the bottom left of the page.
1684  Economy / Reputation / Re: Need community opinion regarding negative feedback. on: May 28, 2019, 08:05:33 PM
~snip~
Just a few things. If you were scammed by noordminers.eu you should open a scam accusation against them on the appropriate board - Scam Accusations. You can also reach out to the user noordminer and see what happened or point them to the scam accusation. Make sure you have proof to present. That is a seperate issue, to your own feedback and the Swiss miner issue.

Feedback can be left for any number of reasons, all you can do is try and work it out with the user who left it. It's a system that takes a while to learn about on the forum. The forum doesn't ban scammers or moderate scams, so unless you break rules/guidelines then you won't face a Ban.  One other thing along forum stuff, please stop multiposting, you can insert quotes to reply to multiple people at once. Here is a guide to posting techniques for future reference if you plan to continue to use the forum.

I am shocked that you are still holding out hope for the Swissminer. It is clearly vaporware that was never going to make it to market, and I think that thread has shown that to you. Don't get strung along to long waiting for the delays, as that just buys time to run further. Probably also why they stopped taking orders, you can only take in scam money for so long before needing to hide and rebrand. So learn from your mistake.

1687  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 40TH/80TH new Miners??? Swiss Miner on: May 28, 2019, 04:09:08 PM
Let's take of the tint most are looking at this guy with. Healthy skepticism is good, but I don't think at this point we should be shitting on this guy any further. I explained a long time ago my reasoning as to why they may just be an unfortunate bystander in this. I for one can understand being defensive if I just bought something then heard it may not be what it seems, frustration and distrust can easily follow. I will also point out that if this had been a quick attempt at a scam they are putting in a lot of effort for a worthless account/reputation (in terms of rank/merit/activity and trust).
We've all made stupid mistakes before and this isn't the last case any of us will hear about someone buying vaporware. Whether it be before they see scam warnings, understand likely scams, or ignore warnings and get burned.

This is all I'll say on the matter here, as this is all off-topic for the board. Here is the topic Mikeywith created when they decided to tag vb2005. I suggest all further discussion around them and their reputation take place there, or in a thread of their creation. - If one is made I will update the link.
1688  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: May 28, 2019, 01:26:08 PM
Hey, they have 2 distributors you can order from. MicroBT is the manufacturer. It's not that bad once you get your head wrapped around that. See here under MicroBT.
Pangolinminer.com and Whatsminer.net are the distributors. Hope that helps; unfortunately it's a bit of a long pre-order.
1689  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitCloak Mixer - Important Feature Proposal: Blacklist Addresses on: May 28, 2019, 12:18:21 AM
Personally I am curious as to what proof of claims you would be looking for if someone requested a blacklisting. Would there be an appeal process available to those blacklisted?

I can see the benefits of this thought process but it does open up to abuse since you will allow anyone to claim something crosses their line. Even if you don't want to you will essentially have to moderate the tool, or it will render your service potentially unusable by a large part of people due to trolls or vindictive individuals.
1690  Other / Meta / Re: User martychubbs; need opinions on: May 27, 2019, 10:56:41 PM
I looked at a few and that account seems like someone who at one point or another was banned for copy/paste, or had an alt banned for that. Most of what I saw was straight copies with a link at the base, which screams lesson learned... the wrong lesson. I hate those threads and have reported a few before, not many though.

It's hard to say why they picked up the merit, or any could have been a one-off where someone liked the content. If they don't look closer which is expected when meriting they may not notice the pattern of using other peoples work to feign contributions.

I would just go through and report away. If enough of their topics/posts get reported and marked good they may receive a temp ban. I believe there have been a few of those happening more as well. There is nothing wrong with reviewing someones post history and reporting anything you deem low quality - especially if they do it enough that they put themselves on your radar. Hope that helps.
1691  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Exchanging Bitcoin, Paypal & Skrill on: May 27, 2019, 09:18:04 PM
Hey bill,

Welcome back. I'm wondering if you plan to continue this. I might need to exchange USD to BTC once a month, just trying to avoid the damned PP conversion fees. I'd be looking to do 1:1 Preev rates. Let me know if you'd be interested and I'll keep you in mind when the time comes.
1692  Other / Meta / Re: Post quality - evaluation on: May 27, 2019, 09:08:56 PM
I'm surprised your first post was deleted. While some of it may have been covered before these generally remain as you were asking a question and it wasn't really generic and spammy. Usually posts that reply to a deleted post get removed as well. That leads me to think someone may have reported the post... but who knows.

The second one did surprise me a little but could see why it was done. I actually replied to it and pointed you to another thread for information about getting started in mining, and advised to ask questions there. Mostly because I've stated the purpose for the Hardware thread is not discussion but information. I still don't see your post there as a problem, but that's just my opinion.
Thank you by the way, always nice to see people appreciate the work. Worst case if you ever need any assistance you can PM me and I'll try to help, but don't shy away from posting in the Mining section it's usually okay.

Honestly though, don't worry about a few posts being deleted here and there. It does happen all the time, and it can be either the local mods, or any mod who sees the report and responds. Sometimes there are mistakes as well.
1693  Other / Meta / Re: Let's finally remove Locked and Self Mod topics from the Marketplace on: May 26, 2019, 04:40:12 AM
Okay, Do you see both as being necessary? Considering they can be seen to serve a similar purpose or be utilized in similar fashion.  Care to weigh in on if you consider them to be a net positive? Individually and combined.

I'm also curious to hear what people think would benefit the Marketplace most if given the choice of removing one of these features.
For me it is the toggling of a locked thread. Taking this away doesn't make the threads disappear, but it does create more work to keep these scammy threads on or near Page 1.
1694  Other / Meta / Re: Let's finally remove Locked and Self Mod topics from the Marketplace on: May 26, 2019, 03:59:20 AM
Thank you for that looks like I missed the last bump. It seems that these discussions tend to end with the idea of restringing these features to a rank as some feel they're going to be unnecessarily harassed.

I was a newbie when I tried to sell my gift cards and mostly all users who posted on the thread derailed my thread and asked me to sell my genuine gift cards at a huge discount as they were getting carded gift cards for that rate. To stop all these unnecessary demotivating comments, I made all my threads self-moderated ones. Example: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=928753.5
None of the comments I reported in my thread were considered off-topic and hence not removed. They troll you to an extent that you feel like giving your product for free. The self-moderated feature is a blessing in disguise for me.
Sorry you felt that was a tough go at it to make a sale. I don't see that thread as overly problematic, but I can see how you might have felt that way. The topics in that thread weren't off topic, but some may have been reportable as repetitive or redundant.

Either way it was in rereading this thread, I realize most has been stuck on the self-mod feature. It feels like people feel they are losing a right or something. On that note it seems the happy medium between the 2 camps as being revoking the "privileged" from lower ranked accounts. I thn kany step even a small one should be at least tested. This would deliver a blow to many of the problem threads we see.

No one really seems to be talking about the other feature which I feel is more problematic overall. The ability to lock and unlock a topic. Does anyone have a legitimate case use for this in the Marketplace?

~snip~   They have to get like 100 to step upto the next rank?   thats like asking toddlers to hop through giant footsteps, the scale required on that part is probably incorrect but having some process new people must go through is really correct.
This was part of why I thought whitelisting individuals through an "Application Topic" would be useful. Merited or not a newbie could gain a reputation or show a need for the ability. Whatever the metric is I still feel even a small action might make it more difficult than logging in typing 250 characters or less to lay out the bait and hope to scam someone.

~snip~
I don't think it will be unfair for them because if they are a genuine trader then they will easily rank up to Member and will get the self-moderation privilege.
If they are honest, do genuine business, earns trust from the community then 11 Merits can be earned in a short time I guess. I think members here will support those genuine traders.
If there were restrictions put in place I have no doubt that there are many members who do patrol or transact in those sections that would merit a good sales thread. There are already a lot that get dispersed in sections like collectibles.

~snip~  It is unfortunate but there are millions of examples in the "real world" of the good having to be inconvenienced due to the activity of a few bad.  IMO it should be # of post limited somehow.  Most scammers aren't going to make 100 shit posts just to be allowed to set up a locked scam for $20.~snip~

I like this a lot, it at a minimum requires them to put in some effort and time which most aren't interested in doing. They will also be limited by the cooldown period as well at first. Having to earn the privilege to use these features seems like a good compromise.
1695  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos - Request: Multisig addresses for treasurers on: May 25, 2019, 08:43:27 PM
Great choice of treausurers, and an excellent move to keep things safe and have contingencies in place.

Never expected anything different from OG myself.
1696  Economy / Securities / Re: LoyceV's Legendary 10 Month 10 Person 10 Altcoin Investment Roller Coaster #2 on: May 25, 2019, 06:21:32 PM
I would say if any of us use an exchange that has it listed we could decide on someone out of that group to make the sale on behalf of the group.

I use cryptobridge and can check if its listed there. If that's a route people want to go.

Doesn't appear to be there.
1697  Other / Meta / Re: Let's finally remove Locked and Self Mod topics from the Marketplace on: May 24, 2019, 08:13:45 PM
So another way of giving SOME users an advantage over the others like DT and most merited members? Why? Other members have no right to use the marketplace of bitcointalk and prevent spam?
Maybe you think or see a ton of threads I miss where legit users are in need of this feature. Feel free to point them out. The point of this topic was not to dismiss the idea, but bring the discussion centered around this point to one place for review and discussion. Who's to say getting whitelisted wouldn't be a painless process, is the unknown of how the system rolls out enough reason to discredit it before it's trialed?

Quote
Moderators don't remove posts that appear "harassing", "trolling", "personal attacks" and so on. Even doxxing is allow and only SPAM posts are deleted so no point of the @bold.
They do remove off-topic. Most are also smart enough to distinguish when someone is only attempting to appear on-topic.
Quote
The scamming problem is a problem the DT members deal with. If you find anything fishy, report to them.
Not going to go to deep into DT as that tends to derail a discussion. The problem there is it's a rotating system, or is designed to become one. In this case you might need to encourage the multiple tags, or continuously seek a new DT to tag an account if the last one is no longer on the list. Again not a solution just a band-aid.

This has been discussed adnauseum. You aren't the first one to think this is just an oh so simple fix.
Feel free to point me to any of the threads that had an indepth discussion about this, and reasoning behind the decision to keep it in place. I looked and couldn't find it. I never stated that I recently had the most original thought and simplest of fixes. I don't get the comparison to sidewalks maybe that works for some but I think we can find enough examples within the marketplace to have this discussion like below.
Quote
One common example is any time you list a gift card, even at cost, there are always 100 cunts demanding you sell it under cost because there are 500 people selling stolen gift cards and they think that is the going rate. This is just one example. These features were put there for a reason. You need to find another solution to these issues other than just stripping features one by one because you personally don't find them useful.
You're right so again for this person who wants to sell their giftcard. Might be helpful if these "cunts" didn't have 500 locked/selfMod topics to compare against for a price cut. That might be more helpful for that person as opposed to lumping them in the same group and forcing them to hide in one of these topics, cutting off open communication with legit buyers to avoid the trolls.

Again I would see this as a case to be made for it being a feature that one could be whitelisted for.

So for anyone opposed to this feel free to bring your ideas to the table. This is a discussion and I welcome all opinions and input, I just don't feel the "That's how it's always been" to be a compelling reason to not try or explore other options.

I always make sales threads with self-moderation enabled because of three reasons mainly,
~snip~
And given your history and use of the system you would be someone that would look to be whitelisted. I envision a pinned topic where people can post seeking to be whitelisted, might be congested at first but after the initial launch would die down considerably.
1698  Other / Meta / Re: Let's finally remove Locked and Self Mod topics from the Marketplace on: May 24, 2019, 02:00:46 PM
I'm in no way denying the benefits that people may find in using these threads, I just think it's a small number within the marketplace. I also am not expecting Mods to begin identifying and fighting scams. I decided to look at it this way, Are they a net positive in the Marketplace?

Yes the feedback system has the potential to deal with warnings being placed, that only happens if someone in that users trust list gets there first and tags that thread as they see fit. This is all sideways from my main point though. I  just don't see the overall benefit to these being an option in the Marketplace.

Is there really any reason that the Marketplace can't evolve to provide a better (imo)  overall user experience without imposing rules. It could be seen with the same argument as not being able to edit posts in Auctions.
1699  Other / Meta / Re: Let's finally remove Locked and Self Mod topics from the Marketplace on: May 24, 2019, 11:45:56 AM
I agree self-moderated topics can serve a purpose outside of the Marketplace. There was an initiative a while back where some members created all topics this way. The idea was they were going to reduce the workload on the Mods by deleting Spam and off-topic themselves. Whether you agree with them or not in discussion threads is up to you, and you can choose to post there accordingly.

The purpose of this thread is only in relation to Marketplace sections.
However, I am not fan of self moderated thread but it would change based on user rank. Self moderated thread should be disable below full member rank.
I disagree anyone has the capacity to use it properly or abuse it, irregardless of rank. That's why I like the idea of needing to be whitelisted. The requirement might be your account needs to have enough substance a Mod can make a determination on whether you need it or not; or if it's a net benefit to allow someone to use it.
1700  Economy / Reputation / Re: How should this be interpreted? on: May 24, 2019, 10:36:48 AM
Like I said originally I agreed with your use of a negative here. It at a minimum would encourage them to engage in an open dialogue about what happened an push for a need to find a resolution everyone ca be happy with. That's when I would review the feedback and make changes if warranted. Now they don't really have to worry/care about that failed week of free advertising they received. I personally still believe they only cared about the feedback because theymos rejected their Bid for forum advertising.

None of us participated in that, so it comes down to are you satisfied with how they handled themselves? I left them neutral, for my benefit if I come across them in the future, I'll know what questions to ask.
