1862  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mining would bring back excessive profit? on: April 30, 2019, 11:48:08 PM
OP I don't really get why you're using the term "electrovalence" possibly a translator or something.

Either way you are missing a few key points for mining. Regardless of the price someone will mine profitably; the people with lower power costs. You can see this by checking any profitability calculator out there. So when the price drops people who have higher electrical costs tend to shut down first, this leads to another factor of mining Difficulty adjustments. When miners shut down their farms the network hashrate is reduced, this eventually brings down the network difficutly.

When Difiiculty goes down, you earn more BTC per TH you mine with. So the miners earnings find an equilibrium again. The opposite effect happens when price goes up, more people can afford to mine so they do causing the Difficulty to increase.

~snip~
In other words, either you have enough money to buy a powerful a** computer or you're better off mining altcoins.
I'm currently mining bpx tokens, the project looks amazing.

I disagree that it's either or. I spent significantly more on my GPU rig than I did buying my first several Asic machines. You run into the same issues with Altcoins that can be considered stable; there is no guarantee of massive gains in anything.
1863  Other / Meta / Re: Writing a welcome message on: April 30, 2019, 11:35:26 PM
Just thought I'd bump this and see if there's been any progress on the welcome message. Started out solid with some good suggestions so I figured it was probably pretty close to being launched.
1864  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Just hit 5.5 PH, & on our way to 8.3 within the month on: April 30, 2019, 11:27:37 PM
Well good thing you snagged up some cheaper power and were going full board into 2017. Nice to hear you made it through Winter likely leaner and hungry for coins. I must admit it would be interesting to hear the plans for getting up to 8PH. Is that just from replacing older gear, expanding or a combination of both? I agree with mikeywith, more info and pics; I like seeing larger operations up and running.

Not sure if you shop around for pools often but your large enough you could qualify for some of the BTC giveaway on KanoPool

I knew I had come across one that would suite your thread it just took me a while to remember what it was. I would like to see this one come along sooner rather than latter, as it seemed mostly complete. I snipped out most of the post, but you can follow it to the topic.

Here's a draft of a welcome message for new users. The user will see it on the screen confirming their registration, and it'll also be available in the help center at any time.

Some text in the intro was obviously inspired by xtraelv's signature, which I really like.

Please provide your suggested additions/changes. However:
 - I don't want to put in a lot of exact numbers such as all of the merit/activity thresholds, since then I need to remember to update them.
 - I don't believe in creating definitive rule lists.
 - There's no need for this to be a complete explanation of everything on the forum. It's just the basics.

Yay a chance to use my reference thread. I remember there used to be a lot of them popping up all over the place. I even ran one for a while, but stopped receiving submissions that met my requirements. OP already mentioned they were "lazy" so it makes sense to me they'd like to be served posts. I'm not disagreeing that a lot of the threads have self serving motivations but even so where's the problem, if worthy posts receive some merit.

If your concern is alt's, it would be a stupid way to try and abuse the merit system. You are essentially holding a sign up saying "Watch me give these people merit", given the amount of people who hunt alt's and account traders that's risky. I have merit from time to time so will watch this thread if OP runs out and maybe hand some out.

~snip~
I also agree with the idea of (free) "reviewer" topics in general, for finding high-quality posts that went unnoticed. Barcode_ created one in the Chinese section, as well.
1867  Other / Meta / Re: [Choose 1]Trade Forum accounts, or DT neg trust for trading accounts - banned on: April 30, 2019, 02:07:09 PM
I chose for neither, and maybe I oversimplified my thinking in this.

I don't see forum staff devoting the time and effort into implementing a system for tracking and banning account sales that would be effective. I might be mistaken but the new method for tracking and storing IP data might actually make that harder. So short of enforcing some KYC or other means to tie an account to the actual person this would be difficult; and going further into peoples private lives in undesirable.

Leaving negative feedback on an account that has been bought does not inhibit that person. People seem to get hurt feelings when they receive it but it's not actually hurting them in any way. They still have full access to the forum and everything in it. That's why I wouldn't want to see it as a ban; this won't affect the account seller only the purchaser. I'm also only interested in tagging the seller of accounts, and the account that was bought, giving the buyer the opportunity to earn their rank by starting from the beginning like everyone else. That option would be unavailable if they were banned for buying the account.

My feedback is for myself and I consider a bought account to be a misrepresentation that I want to be aware of. I use the timeline of when I started on the forum for a lot of things including peoples reputations, so I want to keep myself informed of changes in that timeframe as I may have built up a rapport with an account.

In short I've always been against a pay-to-win ecosystem.
1868  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 24T ASIC miner Cheetah on: April 30, 2019, 01:29:17 PM
Always nice to see another company throwing it's hat in the ring. Hopefully they can find enough people with cheap electricity to move the product. Their next offering will have to be a significant improvement if they are ever going to be a competitive brand.

They at least priced them to move, considering it's PSU included and warrantied gear (untested company).  With shipping beginning in a few weeks, not sure if anyone on the forum would be grabbing one.
1869  Economy / Reputation / Re: Nitrogensports.eu dodging questions regarding their operation on: April 28, 2019, 07:18:27 PM
~random unsubstantiated claims~

That's not at all what this thread is about. OP clearly not American has had  no issues gambling or withdrawing from their site. They are just shady and dodgy about simple jurisdictional questions; which don't really affect them.

The worst part is you're just spreading "information" you've heard, with no proof. Try to deliver substantiated claims and remain on-topic.
1870  Other / Meta / Re: theymosisms - A collection of posts for reference on: April 27, 2019, 03:19:19 PM
~snip~

Glad to see you've gained some traffic and traction on your thread. For what I've been looking to do I won't be adding your list, but feel you should maintain and bump it, especially if theymos makes more mentions of projects. I'm more interested in capturing the snipits that tend to get lost in the fold but provide some insight into the forum and theymos.

I would suggest to not come off so "woe is me" I honestly lost interest in what you were saying for a bit, but made a note to go back and look. That with comments about merit, make the effort seem disingenuous, from my perspective.

~snip~

That's interesting I hadn't considered going outside the forum for information. I'll probably add the link to that info somewhere near the "origin story" quote. I'll have to check it out myself I must admit I never really got into reddit, but that would probably be a good read through. I have read some of the old discussions but not many, I like going down the history rabbit hole on slow nightshifts. There might be some quotes there I list or make a 3rd linked post about, out of interest, but I'm hoping more people start going back to the past themselves . You may also feel free to create a reply of quotes you like for future readers.

~snip~

Yeah I was reading up on that on my phone. This is a good example of something that would have made the list of I did this in a few weeks. I'll add the quote in later under in the second post.

As always open to suggestions or discussion if you disagree with something.
1871  Other / Meta / Re: Viewing TRUST when not logged in on: April 27, 2019, 02:48:18 PM
1- a scammer starts a locked thread selling gift cards.
2- uses a sockpuppet to comment saying he sells the same gift cards maybe at cheaper rate and posts his email/telegram contact.
3- another sockpuppet to vouch for the previous sockpuppet.
4- another sockpuppet to confirm the scam warning about OP and vouch for the first sockpuppet.
I see. I hadn't thought of that.

The warning would help a little because newbies would at least know scammers are not banned (unlike most other forums) but a warning next to every post made by a scammer would be much better.
theymos, any chance you make this change?

I could see that being to broad a stroke. I'm playing catch up here but the way it reads to me this takes in account all DT members. So until we see the changes that theymos might be expecting in the way feedback is being left I'm happy with topics being flagged for now. Ideally this should be enough for these guests to consider logging in as suggested or question everyone in the thread.

The bonus being they maybe become active in the community and login/register, this leads them to see feedback the same as everyone else, or they are reminded the be cautious on the internet.

Overall it is a good step that shouldn't have to much collateral damage; with the added benefit of hopefully curbing some of the failings people have in the way they leave feedback.

Good job sticking with your suggestion sandy-is-fine

Let's crack this block and get to the next.
1873  Other / Meta / Re: My posts are deleted on: April 26, 2019, 07:41:38 PM
You're right they are posting on the right board - there are I believe 5 topics about s9's. I do see they have another one created, which needs the "code" function for the kernel log  applied.

They could search through the topic you posted pretry sure there is a bunch of random troubleshooting in there, but that would take a while. I did see they have a thread a few weeks old they could have probably just tacked onto.

Who know it could have just been a random mod responding to a report as we've seen in the past. We'll just have to see if anyone tells us why? And if the current thread survives.

Edit: that was weird didn't think i closed the "code" function
1874  Other / Meta / Re: My posts are deleted on: April 26, 2019, 06:43:45 PM
Odds are its because there are a bunch of S9 threads. OP should probably just post within one of the others. I can't really look or find one for you right now but i'm sure you can find one to post in, that way you'll also signal to people who've posted in that thread so your likely to find some assistance.
1875  Economy / Reputation / Re: Who's your forum bestie? Make a guess and I'll prove you wrong. Probably. on: April 26, 2019, 06:35:50 PM
Haha nailed it lol. It appears I consider you as good a friend to me as I am to myself.

I am curious, are you using a certain data dump that won't update? What if someone goes back and edits old posts to include quotes could they choose their bestie.

I was going to test this but haven't got the time.

Congratz again Mr. Big Dick Buck!

I forgot my /s as I'm to subtle. The photo staging and sweet name play did tip me off you were at least from the same barnyard. Thanks again for the good times, and new direction in life. No more "work for free and celibacy for me", can't believe it took this long.  Tongue

Is the Canaan efficiency FW spec updated from the newest release?

That would be the stock as advertised specs I believe. I did notice some chat about the firmware. I'll read up on it tonight and figure out how to work it in. Most likely it will be an * about the FW and it's efficiency gains. Good catch.
1878  Economy / Reputation / Re: Nitrogensports.eu dodging questions regarding their operation on: April 26, 2019, 10:32:27 AM
So what am I to take away from this? The only reason I had some hope was because they use the ".eu" domain and although that means nothing I was still surprised by their lack of replying to my very simple question. This is not something new with their support though as it's been like that for the better part of the last 3 years but I am very naive. I've never had issues with withdraws from them so it has nothing to do with that, it just seems shady that they would continously dodge the question and put it on me to figure it out.

Call it a rant but I'd like to know what the community thinks. They've been around for a while and they have a lot of action on their site so if all of it is done in the dark I'd expect them to either get shut down or get fined heavily one of these days and in that case I wouldn't want to have any balance on their site at all.

It does come across shady; I get the first one just because I'm used to getting generic form letter replies the first response from companies. After that though it's a deliberate attempt to get you to drop the subject; they're hoping your stupid and get confused dealing with your tax professional.

Your last sentence is a valid concern, for anyone who plays there consistently and keeps a bankroll on the site. Hopefully they drop the charade and just give you an answer. My guess is if they ever provide info it will be for some lose law country in the end, regardless of where they are or started.

Man you're all over the place this morning, made for some good reading. Thanks for the context on this; I had no idea you were holding auctions for ad spots much like the forum advertising is done. When reading that I just assumed it was referral links you had worked out with manufacturers or parts sellers. Either way it made sense for your topics to serve as an example, I'm surprised there was so much backlash over something like that. Was it mostly from members who weren't able to get permission?

If we can get some $rvn Ravencoin blocks this weekend, we will add some bonus coins to miners!
Help us making mining great again!

0% Fees!

https://louhimo.net/

-o stratum+tcp://louhimo.net:3636 -u <WALLET_ADDRESS> -p c=RVN

Can you show you have the coins available to offer a bonus? If you are charging 0% fee you won't earn extra to provide miners if there is a block found this weekend.
