How hefty a power supply would I need if I went this route?

*condensed*

Thats correct, though I have an e-mail from jim saying it would ship the week of the 24th. I ordered january 21st. My issues stemmed from not having a refund honored when requested before my product shipped. Which is an FTC rule. But now they are making some offers that if adjusted just slightly I'd be more than willing to take and fully and formally withdraw my complaint.
lol i honestly thought things were uber late until just last week but we too received an email from jim saying next week of the 24th too. i believe but cant say for certain it was a bulk next week (get off my back please be happy you received a response at least lmao) or he was high as a bull on caffeine. anyways all i am left wondering is the power of said 5x boards.

Don;t know about that modular supply from newegg but be care with Modular supplies - make sure that they have multiple pcie connectors on the supply itself for the cables. That Corsair CM650 I have on 2 of my Ants has a single pcie power cable that splits at the 1st 6-pin connector to feed a 2nd connector. As a result - only one set of wires about 1ft long is carrying the load for BOTH 6-pin connectors. That run before the split gets rather warm....
You could have just looked, it you'd scrolled down a page height you would have seen that there are 4 separate PCIe cables.

Did look at the the cluster of pics and as usual pretty hard to tell. However if it has separate cables, great. Just saying that not all do.

Also, (OT) what's with the Forum activity counter? I have waaay more than 28 posts here....

Holy crap, you are punishing customers who file complaints?? Anyone who has filed a complaint with various agencies, send them a copy of this post. How fucking petty can you be AMT.

Yes, that is what they appear to be doing.

They don't seem to understand the idea of a consumer affairs complaint being a place of mediation prior to having to go to court.

If they do not want to go through mediation throug a consumer affairs division, then I guess they rather have a court decide on this.

It bothers me that we continually offer AMT a way to settle the dispute and AMT keeps back tracking.

Be careful when using your own power supplies, also check the black wires for heat once you get it running. I don't think it is safe just to use any brand power supply with these units.

AMT already made a recommendation on which to use. But there are some solid brands sold online. Avoid cheap no-name brands and stick with certified PSUs.

How hefty a power supply would I need if I went this route?

Obviously I'm feeling a bit screwed by the whole deal that if I want my miner now I don't get what I paid for, have to shell out more cash to make it work and don't get any sort of compensation. That is a pretty shitty  deal. At least the cost of the case and the PSU should be subtracted from the order. I don't care about the labor. Or a discount for an upgrade board since we are essentially getting shafted.

Why not send the kit, with the case and then I can use the case for whatever I want. Since it's a constraint in power supplies that are the issue.

I think the overall point should be since we paid for a full system there should be some sort of partial refund to cover the cost of the missing parts. This way we get that money to use it on said parts. This is just good customer service at this point. It can go a long way towards soothing the delays as well even if the MPP is not honored right off the bat. This is not a huge amount being asked for just enough to balance things out.

How about express shipping? The weight on this is about 30lbs, expressing that is costly.

What about those who already paid extra for the express shipping?

How about instead of no case and psu we get 6 boards 2 cages and 2 pi's 2 back planes (since you are getting new ones in soon anyway), and the proper connecting cables. Then we have to get two small PSUs on our own anyway and we can run them as two rigs off of different sockets in the home?

No. It supersedes the cost of the $200 supply and $100 case. We're looking for a 300 dollar difference here guys. Bulk psu's come in at $200 a piece. Bulk cases at $100.

The value of the additional suggestion you just made would be:

$640 - Asics
$180 - Hashboard
$32 - Heatsink
$28 - Cage
$42 - Main
$28 - Backplane
$4 - GPIO cable
$12 SDcard
$25-40  labor hr's
$130 probable shipping cost on express saver.

$1121  .vs  $300

And didn't you also file a complaint us as well?  We don't like clients that do that, or give them preference in anyway.

What was you're complaint number?

ROFL that was priceless.

I intend to coarsen. I want stark contrasts drawn. I want polarization. I will not quietly accept stateism so as not to upset anyone. I am not tolerant of our impending and increasing slavery.

am i right in presuming the "kit"  of 5 cards is the 1.2t machine and it comes with lcd screen or is that integral part of pi.

I get on here for updates and it is penguins and kittens and/or people that haven't even made the mistake of buying a miner from AMT. maybe post relevant things on here and act like grown adults, that would be nice. AMT screwed a lot of us over... there are over 250 pages acknowledging this. I'm hoping my post will change this forum, though I highly doubt it will. I don't care about anything else other than everyone getting what they deserve and I think this forum would do much better if everyone was of like mind. If AMT gets these miners out yippie more power to them (I don't believe them since they have lied about delivery several times over) however I just ask everyone to try to keep the posts on relevant info. If I want cats and penguins I can google them. Thank you.

Thank you for listening everyone. Alyssa, does this PSU issue effect everyone or do you have enough for your earlier orders? What about the orders that are # 1000 - 1100? How soon can they expect to receive their miners? Have you already sent out miners to others on the list? and if so what order are you at as far as complete builds? What order are you at as far as DIYers? I understand that some other people may get them slightly sooner if they do the DIY route if it is only a few days difference than it doesn't make sense for me to do that. It seems you are responding more which is great! I'm sure that 80% of your customers here wouldn't be so... upset, had you done this from the start however that is in hind sight. I just want to know just like everyone else does a realistic date on when you are planning your deliveries.... Thank you.

Doesn't look like a good business.  So for a 5 board system:

Quote
$640 x 5 = 3200   - Asics
$180 x 5 =   900   - Hashboard
$32 x 5   =   160   - Heatsink
$28                       - Cage
$42                       - Main
$28                       - Backplane
$4                         - GPIO cable
$12                        - SDcard
-------------------------
$4374  - Total
Not including labor cost,  case and power supplies.

We've shipped up to the 1200's - a few hundred thus far, earlier batches when clients agreed to take the risk and receive their miner despite heat/pcb problems.

AMT, could you clarify this for the group. How is it you are up to the 1200's when the 500's - 700's are still waiting. maybe the question needs to be more specific.

Approximately how many coincraft machines have shipped and what number range shipped out last week (of coincraft machines)

We have clarified this point, but it'll be faster to type it rather than search through the crap in thread. Over the last three weeks we have had several clients who have heard of our delays and have opted to receive miners even with the possible troubles. A few (3 or 4) of these clients where chip buyers as well and in turn happened to working with, or doing something from a board/pcb level. We explained the problem with the cage and we explained the problems with the boards and they opted to receive their miners anyway. We had them sign a waiver which stated they know the miners are beta condition and they wish to receive them anyway, waiving any RMA rights and what nut.

A few of them overclocked them and had troubles, others got it to work and gave us their advice. In total these were 36 clients and 140-some miners that went. Of the 140 some 8 of them were full miners in cases. The clients that opted to receive their miners with possible defects were mostly technically oriented individuals. Each order ranged from 1 to 22 miners. 22 behind the most of course. Some of those orders were in the 600's, 700's, 900's, and even 4 of them were in the 1200's.

We have not shipped all the way to 1200 of course, but after this upcoming we should see a substantial increase in the amount of miner testimonials posted on this thread.

To keep things simpler why not just edit the original post with where things are at. Put UPDATE X/X/2013: We are shipping orders X-X this week. Expect email with tracking info or for pick up.
Something along those lines would help ALOT more than keeping up with what will be 250+ pages of just complaints.

If there are delays post them there too. Seems to work for others. Also if you got orders that are low hanging fruit so to speak particularly in this forum get those out the door. For your own benefit so the feedback here turns into the hardware not about whatever club you are a part of or coffee you drink. Just sayin. You already admitted you don't ship according to the queue system so just do it in a way that simply gets the simplest orders out of the way to leave you room to handle any more complicated ones. It kinda sucks but its better than more of the mess this thread has turned into.

TECHNICAL(ish) QUESTION
Have the issues been resolved that you have with the chips? or are there still pending problems to expect? Will we be getting fixed versions of the hardware?
nvm you posted about the same time I did question answered.

Which chip issues?  There has never really been a chip issue thus far. board issues yes, but chip issues no.  The A1 is a good chip.

He may have been responding to daisy chain architecture having some limitations, 1 chip's link goes or has a weak link, they all go ... that could be read as chip issue unfortunately by design, even though the thermal design and it's scale might be better than one big chip, the implementation, i.e. reference board design should have taken that into account and provided better routing paths for daisy chain for weak or failing chips, etc.

That of course is a limitation of the SPI setup when using daisy chain. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_Peripheral_Interface_Bus
It can be partly solved by using a segmented master-slave setup but of course adds complexity. With that you just lose a few blocks of chips vs the entire chain. Hmm, also might let one restart the block at different voltages/speeds to try and recover...  Is that what AMT is doing with the next-gen boards using several micro-processors?

IMHO, what doesn't help is the chips physical stacking, (SPI interface is top layer, buffer memory layer-2 and cores on bottom layer) That leads to a whole lot of possible noise getting in and interfering with the data stream unless special measures are taken to minimize it and also preferably do some ECC. But hell, if it works it works.

Mmmm, on the point of power specs: Ya all parties involved could have saved grief there simply by calling them preliminary specs subject to change with final products. Ain't hindsight wonderful?

This is the new cage.

Nice a good splattering of fans and a little redundancy, I hope the board or PI can track working fans or dead ones...

Taking a second look at those fans it seems like they are smaller 80mm fans. A setup like that would be fairly loud would it not? Not that it matters for those putting into custom cases or datacenters but for those mining at home that will be a noisy mess. Would 2 larger 180mm fans work? 2 of them would seem to be more than enough to push air through. Just wondering what the design decision was that led to having that many smaller fans vs a couple of larger fans that could achieve similar CFM with a lower Db level.
