Sorry if this has been posted already but if I want to "roll my own" version of Linux coin with a few changes are there some instructions?

Not for linuxcoin but if you would like to make some modifications send them over to me and I'll take a look. If they are local changes then you can add them via persistence. Or you could extract the filesystem and make your changes then pack it all back up and remaster the ISO ? or even debanize your changes ?

Thank you. I remember there being guides for "roll your own" for Knoppix and Morphix so it would probably be similar.

I was thinking of making a live cd for a new currency e.g. with multicoin.

Another question I have does it make much difference to your hashrate if you run headless?

Yea it's the same bud check out debian-live for more info on how to compile a live debian system. If you was going to branch off and make your own changes and you want to use linuxcoin I would suggest you make your own repo and debianize the packages unless you want to change lots of core files ? then I would create your own debian live cd and add the extra's.

Just updated to the 0.2-prefinal and unfortunately I'm getting some weird errors.

When I run atitweak it lists my card (5770) and I can overclock it just fine, but when I try to load phoenix (both with and without smartcoin) or if i try and do a "aticonfig --initial --adapter=all" I get "No supported adapters detected" and phoenix shows an error about OpenCL. But atitweak works fine...

I've accepted the SDK license, that doesn't help either Sad

This worked fine in 0.2b!
Any ideas? Sad

PS I've also noticed it takes a LONG time to start up now too.

Yes working on this now. Hold back on the testing guys. I'm tired now so going to hit the sack but most of this is fixed now and I've debianized most of the miners and the latest bitcoin client that now includes a wallet encryption feature in house Cheesy Also you can have a choice of the grsecurity / standard kernel.

This added bonus with this way is all you guys with prefinal will need to do to is update the packages from my repository and be up to date. I'll get the repository finalized tomorrow.

Thankyou everyone that's tested !!

@ drgr33n

Can you add an easy and quick way (graphical/non terminal) into the "System Tools" Menu to change the monitor resolution and the keyboard settings for non US keyboards? Thanks!

Two things about linuxcoin-v0.2-prefinal.iso:

1. "Install LinuxCoin onto a HDD"-YouTube manual doesn't work any more. Grub can't be installed ... How can I do it now? I had to move back to linuxcoin-v0.2.1b.iso.

2. Why is /opt/miners/phoenix/phoenix.py not executable by default now? In the previous version it was!

1) Don't install this version to your HDD it's only out for a few more days then you can have the final version. What errors you getting with grub ?
2) Probably forgot to set the permissions on that file. I'll fix it up for the final version.

When I do

# apt-get install grub

I get the 1st OK but not the 2nd and not the 3rd page with the device select option. In the 4th (my 2nd) I can select Yes or No. If I do No the 2nd page appears but it leads me directly to the 4th when I do OK ...

Here the Terminal output of the entire HDD procedure

Code:
root@linuxcoin:/home/user# fdisk /dev/sda

Maybe something went wrong there ? There will be a installer in the final version and also you can install this via linuxcoins reop. Stand by for more info.

@ drgr33n

Can you add an easy and quick way (graphical/non terminal) into the "System Tools" Menu to change the monitor resolution and the keyboard settings for non US keyboards? Thanks!

Of course Wink

Sorry to bump my thread but thought this was worth bumping !! Cheesy LinuxCoin now has it's own debian repository. Now you can update your system without re downloading your ISO !! For now if you are running prefinal you can do the following.

Code:
rm /etc/apt/sources.list
nano /etc/apt/sources.list

and paste the following into that file

Code:
deb http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ sid  main non-free contrib
deb-src http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ sid  main non-free contrib
deb http://www.linuxcoin.co.uk/apt sensi main

Save that file and continue with the following steps.

Code:
apt-get update
apt-get install bitcoin cgminer diablominer guiminer hashkill phoenix poclbm

Are you running Linuxcoin wirelessly? I'm looking for a robust wireless adapter, USB or PCI, that has built-in driver support in the Linuxcoin kernal. I'm a linux noob and want to avoid "driver hell".  ;-)

I've looked at the "linux wireless adapters list" but give me your suggestions, please.

Every card i have has worked instantly with linux coin with no driver problems. I have used both the Rosewill RNX-EasyN1 usb card and a pcie-x1 asus PCE-N13 card with no problems. Instantly recognized both respectively as Ralink 802.11 n WLAN and Ralink corp. RT2860. I think your safe with any wifi card, that's been my experience. Well implemented with every platform I have tried so far.

How hard would it be to setup linuxcoin to act as a internet gateway?  I am wanting to install LinuxCoin on a older laptop that will simply be there to act as a internet connection and a PXE server for my actual mining rigs that way it can isolate the mining rigs from the outside world and I wont need a drive / cdrom / thumb drive for the mining rigs.

Did the above today -- took about 30 minutes to download, unpack and install it all. However, when I booted the updated, upgraded 0.2-final it got all the way to the final desktop and seemed to be running (I inserted another USB flash drive and the filemanager popped up) but my keyboard and mouse weren't seen.  :-/

Everythings included to do that checkout /opt/PXE. I have a video ready to upload talking you through it but here's a quick guide.

cd over to /opt/PXE and open up globals.sh
Set your parameters and make sure you enter a nameserver. most can stay as they are you jest want to worry about
NET_NIC = internet facing network adapter
SRV_NIC = adapter you want to run the server from
NAMESERVERS = your nameserver. You can run nameserver.sh to get yours or use googles which is 8.8.8.8

save and close.

next run pxe_menu.sh
choose option 1
choose option 2
quit

and your golden Cheesy Plug your nodes into your switch and each computer will boot linuxcoin PXE and be ready to roll.

Ops you've upgraded to the latest kernel aswell Sad I forgot about them being in there. I'll fix that up tomorrow. Hold on two secs I'll upload some files for you to replace.

EDIT:

Go over and download the initrd and vmlinuz files here And replace the ones located in /live on your usb stick. next time you boot you will have full functionality again.

How does persistence work with this type of setup for things like passwords and custom scripts timezone settings and this sort of thing?
