Actually it's matter of preferences. I find entering email address (which i already create and remember) faster and easier. In addition, you don't have to remember your password if you use online password manager.
It doesn't have to be online password manager, even offline password managers like KeePass can remember all your passwords, and they are much safer in my opinion.
1804  Other / Meta / Re: Hiding your Profile name in Public place ? on: June 27, 2023, 07:28:41 PM
Instead of just hiding my username and leaving blank space I would much rather like to see using randomly generated characters (as my username) each time I use bitcointalk forum.
I guess this would be trivial modification for TryNinja, so instead of being theymos I could for example be renamed to something like this: s71(qQ]MCn4VZ2zCVhg]}YZwp.
Advantage is that it's hard for anyone to remember and repeat this randomly generated characters.
1805  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the best non Kyc exchange on: June 27, 2023, 06:33:52 PM
I know Bisq exchange is good but you can't trade with it on it mobile app (and not every traders has a pc ) and is not really beginner's friendly.
Bisq is a great choice if you want to use it on your computer, but there is one very good alternative for mobile devices and it's called Peach Bitcoin.
This app is available on iOS and Android devices and it can be used for p2p trading of Bitcoin with fiat currencies in Europe, all that without any kyc verification (with some limitations).
One thing I don't like is that PeachBitcoin is not open source, but they announced license will be modified to MIT+CC soon.
You can do your own research here:
https://peachbitcoin.com/

AtomicDex is another exchange that can be used on mobile devices but only for trading with crypto, not with fiat currencies.
Volume is not that great for some smaller altcoins, but it works.

Another good resource to explore is kycnot website:

1806  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 36 Hardware Wallets, compared feature by feature on: June 26, 2023, 07:41:43 PM
I don't see any way to pay with crypto on Ledger official website. Just credit card, Paypal o Google Pay
They are using centralized third party payment processors Bitpay and Crypto.com, they are obviously restricting some countries and locations, and it's much better to switch to BTCPay Server..
I think this can easily be fixed with vpn or tor, but this could create some problems with delivery address location, and I wouldn't waste a single satoshi on ledger hardware wallets.

PS
I saw this new upcoming ledger special fed edition wallet somewhere... but no need to add it on your website/list Wink

1807  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Passport Official Thread on: June 26, 2023, 07:31:25 PM
I'm not interested in this cloud backup myself, because I'm happy with my current backup solutions. However I like the idea of having a way to back up the wallet configuration (user settings, account labels, ...) - without private keys. I even pondered about a standardized format for this a while back; something like a universal 'wallet export / import format'.
That would be a good idea to have, losing labels is almost like losing all your history and content behind all your transactions.
I think some other hardware wallets have a way of exporting and saving this, but I would like to have something like smartphones have, export all settings and data in encrypted offline way.

From what I can tell, this cloud backup only refers to the hot wallet, making it completely 'fine'. To the best of my knowledge, Envoy cannot access Passport's seed phrase at all; that's the whole point of a hardware wallet. Grin
Export to cloud is bad in my opinion for both hot and cold wallets, but I hope this is at least optional ''feature''.
If I remember correctly this ''secure'' iCloud was recently hacked and I don't trust any cloud solutions very, much, that is just other people hard drives.

Hi all, just to confirm, Magic Backups is for our Envoy hot wallet only. It has nothing to do with Passport.
But Envoy is connected with Passport so this can be confusing for some people.
I would add clear notification that holding anything in cloud is never going to be secure as keeping backup offline.
Is Magic Backups feature optional or not?

We feel that Magic Backups can greatly aid onboarding new users to Bitcoin in a way that is drastically easier, without giving up custody and with an easy path to a more standard seed backup once they're comfortable with that. Once a user backs up their seed, we also have the functionality directly in Envoy to delete their seed from their Apple/Google account and delete their app data (we never store their seed, even encrypted) from Foundation's servers, if they so choose.
Easier is not better option most of the time.
Hunter Biden had all his dirty photos saved in his ''secure'' iCloud account, and look how that ended up.  Tongue

1808  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 2023 List Bitcoin Mixers Bitcoin Tumblers Websites on: June 26, 2023, 06:57:28 PM
Are there any mixers for other coins than Bitcoin, for example BCH? How it would work with ETH?
There are several mixers for ethereum (similar like tornado cash), but there is already monero that has built in ''mixer'' that is much better than any other centralized shitcoin mixing service.
I think that litecoin also introduced mimblewimble for better privacy, and bch has cashfusion mixing with electrum cash wallet, but I don't think volume is very good.
If you want to mix ethereum it's best to atomic swap it with monero and than maybe swap in bitcoin.

1812  Other / Meta / Re: [Bitcointalk Party - Discord sv] Bitcoin Pizza bake-off contest! Enter by June 1 on: June 26, 2023, 10:09:20 AM
Pizza must be made by yourself
There is no way for anyone to prove pizza was made by myself...
It can be made by my aunt, next door guy or custom made in pizzeria by proffesionals.

The definition of a pizza, per Merriam-Webster, states
Wait...so that means no more lemon and potato ''pizza'' experiments?  Cry

I agree more or less with rest of the rules you wrote, except maybe limiting that only Full members can participate and vote.
Brand new, newbies and Junior members should not be allowed, but everyone else should.

So the user with the most wins wants to readjust the rules right after losing?  Roll Eyes

1813  Other / Meta / Re: A concise 2FA/TOTP implementation (SMF patch) on: June 26, 2023, 09:57:46 AM
I think the 2FA will be those of authentication apps like Aegis because it is the most secure. I like something about this forum veteran members, they know what not to go for.
Sure, I use Aegis and it's one of the best open source 2FA apps at the moment.
I know PowerGlove knows what he is doing, but I just wanted to make sure what should not be included, and I would also add notification not to use google 2fa with cloud.

I am of the same opinion. I'm not a big fan of 2FA.
And I say more, I find it annoying to always have to be next to my smartphone, to access a website. Maybe it's just laziness. Tongue
Better security can be annoying sometime, but this is by design, it's not a flaw.
I don't like carrying big heavy lock with me to secure my motorcycle or bike from thief, but there is a high chance someone would stole it without any lock or with cheap lock.
You don't have to always carry smartphone, less secure way is to install 2fa app on your computer, KeePass also supports storing 2fa keys.

It's not ideal, that's true, but it's also not that stupid. There are still some important advantages to be had, even if you do everything from a single device. Your account will still be protected from phishing, and (in a lot of cases) it will still be partially protected from keyloggers, clipboard sniffers, and certain other types of malware (i.e. depending on how it's stored, it can be much harder for malware to exfiltrate your shared secret than it is for it to read the clipboard, etc.)
KeePass is reasonably secure, it can be used to save this 2fa codes, and you with extra security it's not that easy to break KeePass encryption.
It's certainly better to use this in combination with different device, but YubiKey is also not a bad idea to have (I don't know if that is compatible).
Even some hardware wallets can be used for this purpose in combination with FIDO:

1814  Other / Meta / Re: Can Bitcointalk Adopt the Web3 System? on: June 26, 2023, 09:45:34 AM
Currently, it seems that sites that implement web3 technology are popular. This site connect wallet to login. Is it possible if bitcointalk also adopts such a system in the future? maybe it will be more interesting if we can log in with a bitcoin wallet
I am not interested at all in this and I don't want to connect any wallets with my bitcointalk account, it is waste of time.
Web3 have nothing to do with bitcoin as far as I know, it's only related with worthless shitcoins and it doesn't have any real use case in real world.
If I want to make login in forum more secure I would only consider adding optional 2FA as improvement to current login system.
1815  Other / Archival / Re: [BIG LIST] Crypto Debit Cards on: June 24, 2023, 09:52:46 AM
I already made an account with them otherwise I wouldn't have minded using your referral code. And I was actually asking whether you used the card while shopping?
Yes I did used it and it worked just fine.
This is perfect you want to buy some digital goods that can't be purchased with BTC, becaue it still preserves some of your privacy.
Note that this cards will not work for purchasing with paypal and similar websites, but I think someone said that it can be connected with paypal.

1817  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Let's talk about Reproducible Builds for Hardware Wallets firmware on: June 23, 2023, 08:16:53 PM
Verifiable Source wallets let you inspect code for flaws, but pre-compiled software lacks a way to verify if it matches the source. Reproducible builds ensure that anyone can recreate identical copies from source code, build environment, and instructions. That's why is important for all wallet users to learn how to build the firmware and verify it before upgrading their wallets.
If not possible for you, at least see if there are proofs of others doing that verification. One good place to find those proofs is https://bitcoinbinary.org
I am not saying bitcoinbinary is bad but in my opinion there is a better website that first started doing this Reproducible builds, and it's called WalletsSrutiny.
I think they have bigger base of wallets they tested and they are constantly working on adding new ones, not to mention they received lawsuits for doing this...
Bitcoinbinary was created after NVK changed license for ColdCard wallet from open source to CC, because it was not showing reproducible Coldcard on WalletScrutiny website Wink
It's different story now:

1818  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: June 23, 2023, 08:02:33 PM
For about half a year I did not use the Hardware Wallet of the first model, but just recently I tried to enter it, but my attempts were unsuccessful.
If I understand correctly you own Trezor ONE hardware wallet, right?
First thing I would suggest is to uninstall and reinstall latest version of Trezor Suite app with bridge, and install it again from scratch to see if this fixes your problem.
Than you can also connect Trezor with other third party wallets like Electrum or Sparrow and see if Trezor works with them.
Try with this first and let me know what happens next.

1. When the cable is connected, the screen with the Trezor logo lights up, then by pressing the keys, a phrase appears in the spirit of "Do you want to block the device? Yes / No. In general, nothing else happens.
I don't remember ever noticing message like this...

Trezor supported operating systems are Linux, MacOS (version 10.13 and higher) and Windows (version 10 or newer), so make sure you have that updated as well.

PS
I hope you have seed phrase backup safe on your paper.
1819  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: My first contest : win a hardware wallet, a steelwallet and satoshis ! on: June 23, 2023, 07:48:58 PM
Dear gamers, Shiftcrypto is offering a new giveaway: a beautiful bitbox. All you have to do is carefully fill in a survey and then I'll think about how to proceed with the draw. If you have any ideas for the draw, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks
Another one?
Bitbox must be falling for your charm, and they are getting very generous to us, thanks to you Wink

I would suggest not complicating things a lot with different rules, just make sure that all members are active members of bitcointalk forum.
In my opinion it's better to avoid Bitcoin price prediction this time, but make a random giveaway draw based on order how they submitted the survey.

1820  Other / Meta / Re: A concise 2FA/TOTP implementation (SMF patch) on: June 23, 2023, 07:31:59 PM
So, as some of you know, I've been working on adding (optional) 2FA to the forum for a while now. I mostly finished this work late last year, and it's just been sitting in a folder, waiting for its day in the sun.
Well done! Another ''forum main dev'' project  Cool
I like to hear that 2FA will be a optional feature, but depending on how easy is to use I would would probably use it in bitcointalk forum.
Just make sure not to add any 2FA that is connected with SMS and phone numbers, this is literally worst thing related with 2FA.
Now that being said, people should be aware of risks when using 2FA, that means if you lose backup codes you will lose your account, and not even theymos with all his mighty powers will be able to restore it.
Speaking about theymos, I wonder what is going to be his opinion about this Wink
