Yeah, what a piece of shit, I hope he chokes on a Gyro and I hope Greece goes down in flames.
Greece doesn't have the balls that Iceland or Switzerland have. They will sell out their people and lands.

Any significantly advanced cryptocurrency is indistinguishable from Ponzi Tulips.

Median age in Greece is over 43 years old.

Every young person with any kind of talent or ability has fled.

It's a country full of ageing people who are desperately trying to believe that when they get too old to work they'll be able to pay the younger generation that doesn't exist to take care of them with the money they won't have.

And when private enterprise attempts to create jobs, it is met with protests and arson.

That truck is a metaphor for the entire country.  They made their socialist hellhole, and now they can burn in it.

Did these idiots forget that without the Athenian silver mines they'd all be speaking Persian?

they always make one giant mistake when announcing their views on bitcoin: that bitcoin cannot adapt or evolve.

some people are arguing with the limited number of transactions, but keep in mind that this limit is only here because the majority of users (and miners ofcourse) agreed to have it in place. it is by design open to changes.
similarly, and yes i know it would have much greater implications, the inflation of bitcoins can be adjusted. if we really one day come to the point where the newly generated bitcoins plus the transaction costs are not able to pay for the network security that we think is needed at that given point in time, it would be a possibility to hardcode a constant inflation of eg 2% pa into the bitcoin system.
we would not necessarily be forced to sit and watch bitcoin collaps because it turns out that transaction costs aren't enough to pay miners (hypothetical intellectual game).

that is more control than every single central bank has within its own zone of influence, see the struggling of the ecb to fight an imminent deflation within the euro zone.

One of my college friends of Greece descent moved to Greece several years ago at the age of 33(ish) to work in his wife's father's business. This was after going through law school and working for several years in the US.

He said no one in his office would believe him when he told them this was not his first job, because in Greece no one works below 30 and everyone retires by 50/55, and this is so ingrained in Greek society that no one could accept it was possible he had a full career in his 20s.

I don't wish ill on anyone, but such a zero work ethic society can never survive.

I believe my friend was incorrect though and many Greeks do work in their 20s, its just that all the productive ones leave Greece and apply their productivity in another country.

Here's one that will blow Varoufakis tiny mind wide open.

Which vision will win out? That will depend less on the specific capacities of the technology than on the ability of governments and electorates to grasp what it is and what it means. One way or another, it looks like RoboCorp will be able to look out for itself. In the meantime, we need to get our own house in order.

sort your shit out, robocorp is coming  Smiley

That's a great read, thanks. Sometimes I wonder if Satoshi's most impactful and valuable invention might turn out to be the invention of the first DAC.

Bitcoin as money is a mechanism to regain what we lost and help return to the principles of sound money that we had under the gold standard (albeit with a much better payment function).

But the invention of the first DAC enables entire new concepts that we've never had before, and can help disintermediate functions for society that have always required government or middle men before. This has potential we don't understand yet, and will probably take a long time to develop, but will be revolutionary.

I remember reading that theymos likes Iain Banks' sci-fi Culture novels. It was probably apparent to him early on that Bitcoin is a currency that would fit into that civilization. I think that DACs go to the next level with incredible potential, easily the backbone of an economy this size of the Culture.
Back on Earth, the future world economy will be transformed, and far more efficient, if DACs take off.

AFAIK DACS preexisted BTC.  I learned about them in the context of open source hardware.  BTC is interesting because it provides one DAC mechanism... but what it rewards is very limited (mining).  Others have proposed plans like divvying up money based on source control checkins.  This is distributed dev, but still centralized rewards.

The DOW drops on bad news, the Asian market reacts, and guess what dumps on Chinese exchanges almost simultaneously?  Yep, bitcoin.

It's still being treated as a stock/commodity.

Huh - It is a commodity - Maybe in 2021 when inflation is less than 1% we can start to talk about it as a currency

No 2016 3% is very much inline with fiat... in 2021 it will be something new.

That's fine, don't mind if it's treated as a stock/commodity, as long as you can trade it on Wall Street, then we will see some real $ in BTC.
