The OpenID identity provider myid.net appears to have shut down. If you can't get into your BitMinter account because of this, contact me at operator@bitminter.com

question about walletbit.com

Haven't seen that one. An online wallet? I hope it's temporary.

yeah they are an usa online wallet company.

I just converted all my coins (7) last night from wallet.bit to fastcash to paypal. I have always held coins less then a week. So it is not like I have a lot of coins in the wallet. So if they have a big problem I am lucky in that I have under .5 coins in the account.

My method is earn 4 to 8 coins then cash them into paypal or an amazon gift card.

Is this a temporary issue or shutdown permanently?

If you go to myid.net it redirects you to another site which displays a message in korean. It's an image so you can't paste it into google translate. But one miner told me that myid.net have shut down permanently.

it is back up.

https://walletbit.com/

one of the reasons I always sell my coins is fear of storage.. i have earned 250 plus coins but never held more then 10 or 12 at a time.

On one hand I would have liked holding them all, but  on my other hand if I had 250 plus coins in walletbit for the 20 plus hours it was down I would freak.

i've never kept more than 5 bitcoins just because i've always sold them as i went

but if I intended to keep a sizeable amount, i wouldnt use any online wallets, i'd just store mine on a usb flashdrive (and make a backup on a 2nd usb flashdrive), removed from computer when not transferring coins

I don't think the problem was with bitminter.  A HUGE number of websites just became unaccessible recently.  A few people in my chat (in different countries/continents) were having the same issue loading a significant number of websites (including sites like ozcoin, blockchain.info, bitfunder, and even imgur).

Dude,
The site is OK and server also DNS is broken which means that after some time usaly up to 8 hours you will be not able to resolve the site ip and it will look like site never existed.  I do not know about other sites mentioned:)

CloudFlare is dead in the water. Unfortunately we use them for DNS, so you can't look up any bitminter.com hostnames right now.

Some miners are still at the pool mining. You can use 176.9.104.178 instead of mint.bitminter.com and keep mining. But remember to change it back once things are in order again, otherwise things won't work the next time the mining server moves.

I hope CloudFlare will get their systems up shortly.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Phew. We (and half the internet) are back. I hope this is a rare occurrence with CloudFlare.

Edit: That's a lot of websites that went offline:

If anyone wants to know exactly what happened, here's the post mortem report from CloudFlare about the outage:

Sorry for the spam today. Just wanted to let you know a small website update just went out.

The luck and rewards pages are now much more responsive.

I also added Bitcoin Stats for iOS (iphone, ipad) to the third party apps list. Thanks for supporting BitMinter! It's becoming a nice list of available apps now. Smiley

okay i am like you in that i sell my coins as they come it. mentally the idea of holding on to them is something I was  not able to do.

Just buy some cheap USB flash drive, stick it in a USB slot, set data directory to that drive via datadir=F:\bitcoin (or whatever) in bitcoin.conf, download blockchain, then take it out...

or, better yet, just make a wallet.dat on this flash drive with some address, and then send all your bitcoins to one of those addresses when you get some.  then you never even have to put the USB stick (and thus the wallet w/ all the coins) in your computer until needed (though in such a case I'd put it on at least 3 sticks if it had a decent chunk of coins on it)

you can usually find some decent ones on slickdeals for $5 or less.

like:

http://slickdeals.net/f/5874998-Kingston-Technology-DataTraveler-Special-Edition-USB-Flashdrive-16GB-7-99-8GB-4-99-Best-Buy

http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/90442/meritline-usb-2.0-sd-sdhc-mmc-mini-sdmsm2-all-in-one-memory-readerwriter

(all dead now, but i'm sure there'll be another good one within a couple days)

or if you still have a 1.44 floppy drive or something.
