Erick Chelle has drawn his player list and a notable absentee is Kelechi Iheanacho. I think it’s reasonable as his form has dipped and he has struggled for playing time.

I think it is very important for the new coach to select players that are based on merits and not based on name or old glory because the games that are upcoming are very important games and games that we cannot afford to lose. If Victor Osimhen is not fit for the game, the coach should drop him. It should be essential for the new coach to build a team that can function with or without any particular player.

Talking about players, I wish that New Manchester United player Dorgu was playing for Nigeria instead of the Danish national team.

Omitting Kelechi Iheanacho from the Super Eagles list for the upcoming games I don't think was a bad decision by the new Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle. The Imo State born attacker have struggled to shine this season both for clubs and country and considering the fact that the Super Eagles needs to win the two FIFA World Cup qualifying games in March, players that should be called up have to merit their place so it's a good call.

During the selection of players, the new Super Eagles coach(Erick Chelle) said he was going to drop old players to bring in new players. Dropping Kelechi Ihenacho is nothing any anyone to worry about. How I wish he would add Iwuobi to the list because I see nothing that guy is contributing in the field of play for the Super Eagles.

Erick Chelle should know what the targets are for the Super Eagles. He shouldn't in any way do favoritism of players because if the Super Eagles failed to qualify for World Cup, who the country's citizens blame is the coach, not the players.

Kano Pillars are in the 4th position in the Table and I was expecting them to be at the top since he is there. In the 39 man list as shown in the image I can see names of some golden-oldies which I never expected as I was expecting Chille will interest himself much on young superstars players to do the job  for him.

It's obvious that among all the departments, the forward is with the highest number of calls ups. Which player in your opinion do you think doesn't deserve a place in this list probably by current for of the individual player or club?

This is a good one, but just like always The Nigerian national team is not always about the qualities of players being called but how many of them are willing to play with the whole of their heart for the national team. For years now the super eagles always have quality players, but they don’t win anything with it, sometimes they even struggle to qualify. Let hope this time around they will play different. With such quality in this list I think most teams will be scared to face the super eagles.

I was expecting to see Gift Orban in this list, after his recent move to Hoffenheim in the bundesliga, he is scoring again, he has now scored 4 goals in 8 matches for the German side. I know maybe because of his body size might be the reason he his been left out but we have seen so many players with such size causing damages for the opposition side.

Overall it a good lis and I really hope this time around the super eagles will really do us proud.

My focus when I looked that the list was on the home-based players. And I think I counted about 6 home based players on the list. I am not so familiar with the names of the homebased players. And is there is benchmark for the number of homebased players that can get invited to the national team to play at the World Cup? If there is not benchmark, I think we should have more, let's say about 10 of them on the list. By the way, I don't think Ahmed Musa should be on that list.

Ahmed Musa’s presence in the squad is to encourage them as serve as a leader to help them in their fight for the trophy. We know that is will be a very hard one for them to even win the cup, but if they have a good squad, they can make it far in the competition which is something commendable for them if they can achieve some records they haven’t gotten in the competition for all the times they’ve participated in the competition.

I have noticed that several times and I don’t know why they value players playing in foreign teams than they value those playing in Nigerian leagues in Nigeria. There could be many things we should look into also in that aspect, maybe their nature of play and how those players there perform well than those here. But in my opinion, since they’ve tried foreign players, they should also try and include home players that are good, maybe they will stand a good chance in the competition this time when they qualify.

IMO this is a good decision and a good step towards making the team better. For a long period of time Kelechi Ihenacho has struggled to stay relevant in club football which is one of the criteria for getting a call up for international competition. Playing for the national team has to be merited not by favoritism so I feel the new coach has done well in this regard.

The coach has work to do and he knows exactly what needed to be done so that the super eagles will have a strong side that can get victory in their up coming games. Like you have rightly pointed out the forward are just so many and that's where I think the coach will drop lots of players from. We don't really need all those names there. Give us our regular guys the fans favourites and let them bring us victories. Whoever the coach decides to drop is up to him but he shouldn't drop the likes of Victor Boniface, Ademola Lookman the reigning African player of the year. Victor Osimhen, Chukwueze, Ahmed Musa, Stanley Nwabali. These players should make the final list. They are big names and they live up to expectations whenever they are given the opportunity to play.

You are absolutely right, no coach will have victor osimehn in his team and will not call him. In the world of current football I don’t think you will mention top 5 center forward and victor osimehn name won’t be mention. For 3 years now he has proven that he is world class No 9. The last Afcon we played we all saw what he did for us, the goals were not much there but the hard work, high press, commitment and fight was there. We need osimehn in this team, he is threat to every defender. We all see what he is doing in Turkey already this season, so he is very much needed in the super eagles team.


Another big point you made, the likes of Ahmed musa is not supposed to be called again, we have young players who deserves this chance, the likes of Gift Orban, he is doing well in the German league and for sure he deserves to be in this provisional list. There are many names on that list. You may be shocked to see that one of those small names may be a better fit as a striker for the Super Eagles, a striker who is scoring more opportunity than he misses (not saying that is how Osimhen is), but you must get the point of what I am saying.

I don't even care if he is playing in Europe or in our local league; I am saying that we need a central forward who is clinical and must merit being in the first eleven, not by past records, but by what they can deliver from current form.

When it comes to this position of centre forwards we have a few options in that position that is why we cannot just push Victor Osimhen out of the team to feature for the super eagles in the coming games. He might not be at his best but we know how clinical he can be in front of goal. It is better to take our chances with Osimhen than playing without a good and reliable striker.

You talk about merit and at the same time you talk about how the performance in their club is not what the call-up should be based on. So what merit are you talking about? Osimhen currently has more goals than every other striker in the Nigerian squad. How can you speak of merit and say Osimhen was not selected based on merit?
When selecting players for the national team, they usually look at how they're performing in their club side and the kind of club they play for. If a payer is doing very well in his club side but struggles in his national team then the questions should also be on the national team and not only the player.

At least this is not a match day squad but a provisional list and it's not even the final list. So if Ahmed Musa picture is used as the cover page, there's nothing wrong with that. If I'm not mistaking, he is the captain of the super eagles, as the oldest player in the team. You might not feel the impact of Ahmed Musa on this team, because he might not be playing regularly, but he's wealth of experience is very much needed to shape the team. It's customary for national teams to always go with one or two old players who will contribute to the team when it comes to certain things.
I remembered very well before Joseph Yobo retired, he was also a regular in the super eagles. Despite him being aged and not playing regularly, he was also very instrumental to the team. And you should know that the national team sometimes are also selected to reflect the federal character. After some key players has been selected, the remaining players are picked looking at the federal character. Ahmed Musa is also an example of that in my opinion.

Am not trying to misquote you here, just that the way you said it, it was just like victor osimhen wasn't deserving to be among the names selected, in the past qualifying games that victor osimhen wasn't available due to injuries, we all saw how victor Boniface was , he offers no threat upfront, but if taiwo awoniyi was available we wouldn't have felt much of the absence of victor osimhen, Sadiq Umar and the rest of other attacker in the team can't unsettle defenders the way victor osimhen does, so in as much as most times he is very wasteful in front of goal, his overall contribution to the team and his work rate upfront helps the team and should not be underated in anyway, but nevertheless the new coach should be given free hand to work on his own terms, so that if things goes wrong, he wouldn't have any complain to give.

Though even if some persons commented that he will only go there to encourage the team I will not buy it because there are so many other ways of encouragement he could do other than being among the team, he could just come as a supporter because he cannot be playing bad and still encourage someone who has won African best of the season. That position is best for another super eagles players who have not been on the list before, so that even if they did not use him but let it be that he is building up the courage to challenge in any season he would be remembered to be fixtured.

Looking at the provisional 39-man list for the Super Eagles next two World Cup qualifying games, I think I can on my own point out at least 10 players that'll not be making it to the final 23-man list. The visit to Rwanda and the home game against Zimbabwe are two crucial games that the Super Eagles must win to still remain in good position to qualify for the next edition of the FIFA World Cup and I hope at the end, they win the games.

How will you say so?

Is Osimhen not performing currently and how sure can you tell if he plays for the Super Eagles team he won't perform very well?

How do you take your merit list, i will love to know because current form is included and you can't take Osimhen out of that. Osimhen is not a lazy player to the team, we know AFCON to be more of physicality not just techniques and Osimhen is one of the players with such attributes.
