2621  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: January 08, 2014, 09:26:25 AM
Hi John,
Welcome to the boards, we need more players in this game. I look forward to specs on your miners and more information on your business model.

Thanks Btceic!

More Specs will be coming out soon.
Our business model is fairly simple: we are going to produce and sell the best possible mining gear, with a well oiled supply chain.

John

The chip design is almost complete. We're starting sales now because we're at the point where we the calendar of remaining items is fairly fixed, and we're confident we can deliver.

So confident in your schedule that you'll offer refunds in October, November, December, January 2014? That's not very confident at all!

Going back in time... someone knows how to read the tea leaves properly.

The case with plenty of small holes proved at Butterfly Labs to be noisy and ineffective. People achieved great temperature and noise reduction after changing the original fan plates to standard ones made of thick wire:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=277000.msg3006186#msg3006186

Silent one (left) and noisy one (right):

If the X-1 is to be silent (like advertised), the case openings should be changed a bit.

It might also be a good idea to get a dust cover for the wire one no?

2624  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Asic vendor review (WIP) on: January 08, 2014, 03:23:18 AM

Love the information posted based on personal experience. Great idea to post in this format. However, try to keep your "opinions" out of it or you will destroy the good this thread could bring. Facts only and check your emotions at the door.

I disagree. One's opinions on a company can't help but color one's review of a mfg.. These opinions aren't formed in a vacuum but come from our accumulated knowledge of a manufacturers actions, plans, and public behavior.

For example: my opinion is that AMT and BFL offer awful customer service. This very well plays into my own decision making process when community fund raising hundreds of BTC on the behalf of trusting miners that join our co-op.

No offense but trying to discount or to not include our opinions on an ASIC mfg. review thread sounds protective of one or more of these mfgs.

Edit: HashFast is at the bottom, because that's my opinion of them changing TOS for Batch 1 and 2. Partial BTC refunds from them aren't going to cut it.

+1 it is all about the PERSONAL experience.

Here is how I see it. If you mess up and fix the problem then you are deserving of further trust think BuzzDave. If you mess up and do not fix the problem think Avalon / BFL / HashFast then you are undeserving of further trust.

Personal opinion matters as time passes and more opinions are collected you can see a much more clear picture of what is going on. If there are significant numbers of complaints and little or no resolution that speaks volumes. Whether or not people are polite or vitriolic in their complaints matters as little as does the patterns that develop. Can you really determine whether the company is good or bad based on a limited number of personal opinions? I think there is value in it if the experiences are first hand.

Avalon chip buy. I personally went through way too much drama and the excuses presented by Yifu and the lack of any proper communication for well over 9 weeks was more than enough for me and the members of a group that had raised 80,000 USD to buy chips to put me off EVER buying Avalon anything again. I would as others agree they are NOT nor should they ever be trusted again regardless of their ability to ship Batch 1.

BitFury chip buy. Was involved in a small order it was shipped on time without delays from Megapower BitFury USA.

BitMine.ch A1 chip buy. Involved in ongoing project getting 2 sample chips for the prototype we are building based on the fact we provided some support on the designs of the chip. 3 week delay there abouts as indicated by BitMine.ch. Has not adversely affected our prototype development. Fairly responsive team but they need to make sure they have a CRM system in place to handle potential issues with a very complex ASIC design.

Black Arrow Minion chip buy. Supported some of the documentation for the Minion we are currently waiting on some samples / full order when the chip fabrication gets done. No warning flags so far. Very responsive team that will need a much more robust CRM system as they were slightly caught out when they had a larger order volume swamp them. They seem to be delegating some of this work but we will see how this progresses.

That is the end of my list.

Now moving forward this should be STICKIED! This has to be the go to post for us in the community to guide and inform.

[Edit] Entropy-uc yes agree 100% with that
2625  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [The Wasp] 28nm ASIC Miner Open Hardware Development Project on: January 08, 2014, 02:47:35 AM
As are we, we are so hyped to see a working prototype we can taste it.

As we get close we are focused on developing our network so we can work with and support anyone interested in fabrication and sales of these Open Hardware units. We are readying our RMA facilities should any in the US need repairs or maintenance we can support you there stateside. We are hopeful that most of the production of our units will be done through 3rd party fabricators following our designs, using our software and firmware that are licensed and can provide users with an unparalleled support of these units. But even if we see 3rd party production we are keen on offering, at customer cost of course, RMA services and we are also working hard to put together multiple hosting service sites for units worldwide.
2626  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Open Source Hardware Project] Hive & Wasp Prototype Development on: January 07, 2014, 02:07:18 PM
We are self-funded, but if you are interested in building Wasps & Hives let us know always interested in supporting more DIY teams and just to note the designs won't be released until the prototypes demonstrate we have full working hardware, software and firmware.
2627  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The truth about the BFL 1000 BTC fund? on: January 07, 2014, 08:45:02 AM
I would like to reiterate that the topic here is the fund, not the business or Inaba's personality).

... But Zerlan's personality and arrogant behavior is getting in the way of, and cheapening the entire premise of their "fund"

You can't have a discussion about the fund, and not discuss Josh's deplorable behavior, based on the comments you yourself have posted from him.

Is it time for the why are we waiting song?

Update Mining Pool:

Looks like the pool team are finally getting things moving server wise that means the tinkering can begin. We will have more details to post next week on the mining pool.

Chips, chips and more chips

In a recent round of discussion with various members, we will have even more chips than we originally intended on the prototype side.
A1's, BitFury and BitMain all should be well "overstocked" in the coming weeks as some of our members are having their orders being filled and more samples are sent out.

WPC Logo

Still a day or two left on first round of voting we are keen to announce the winner of the contest but still need more members to chime in on the designs.
Voting is pretty tight and at least 3 designs are now in the running and I suspect we might have to do a run-off vote to break a tie.

Hey BFL  "Thanks for the FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE water coolant"  Cheesy Grin.... NOT!!!!!  Sad

They don't include the coolant.
2633  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 20nm asic miner technology on: January 06, 2014, 10:11:41 AM
It's not just the size that counts.

The numbers you should care about are delivery time, BTC/GH, and W/GH.  Technical details are interesting, but if they don't improve those three numbers they're not really relevant.

$ per GH/s that is the real important number along with delivery date especially when you are making that miner.

Recommended: Bitfie - Win a Wallet   Hashcows gpu pool   Nasty asic pool   Bitminter - my overall best pool   Wasp open hardware project   A great video   A great bitcoin faq

Thanks for the vote of confidence. We hope we can live up to the status of recommended!
2635  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] - Stumptown Miners - Avalon PCB Assembly - West Coast USA on: January 06, 2014, 07:49:50 AM
Sorry for this all going sideways but kudos are deserved for demonstrating how to handle a bad situation professionally Ryepdx. There is literally very little you can do when the people who promise the chips basically refuse to honor the timetable and I was amazed that to see you push things forward given the difficulty.  Knowing that feeling of dread when you just have to chuck in the towel and start again sucks been there but things will get better.

Oh God, not this again.

2637  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: public record, case 13LA09619 won against BFL on: January 06, 2014, 05:01:51 AM

In other words, a plaintiff winning a default judgment says very little about another potential plaintiff's chance of winning if defendant shows up in that subsequent plaintiff's case.

YMMV, as always.

It does if they can't get their shit together and figure out which "official" place they are a getting registered mail sent to. It looks clear that BFL seems to be blissfully unaware they were sent anything and this judgement was made. Either that or they lied and basically didn't bother showing up hoping that the case would go away without going to court.

2638  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: BFL Monarch - Delivery Dates on: January 05, 2014, 02:47:44 PM
Hi,

Few days ago I ordered 2 Monarch cards from BFL.

When I ordered they say delivery is estimated in October/November.

Now I see the first batch is sold out (http://www.butterflylabs.com/monarch/)

But the delivery dates they publish for the sold out dates are... "November/December"

Looks like they got another month delay just few days after they start taking orders...

If they finish the "tape out" few few days ago and at that time they estimate 60-90 days what can change now to get an estimation of 90-120 days.

With 60-90 days was a risky bet to buy... with 120 is a suicide.

I know may I have been an idiot buying from them.

Regards

What is the latest? March for those who first purchased or is it even later now? Any updates?
2639  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: January 05, 2014, 08:58:22 AM
nevermind then i guess..

nice way of shitting up the thread, go us..

2640  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow announces 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $1.49/Ghash on: January 05, 2014, 08:47:34 AM

I've been following this thread simply because everything to this point seems a bit too good to be true

It depends on how/when you paid, but even for those of us who paid in BTC when it was over $1000/BTC, making ROI looks sketchy.

Everything has to go perfect - the difficulty has to plateau and they have to ship by the end of March. Thats for us to break even.

The mining game is effectively dead for those who are not a pool operator, mining hardware manufacturer, or 3rd party reseller.

There are tons of spaces to make money in the Bitcoin world. Its a huge, open field right now. Go out and play.

If you stay in the mining game in 2014 as a little guy, you will get crushed.

Why be a little guy alone? Get together with others and POOL your resources.
