Shut down, reboot, was not challenged for new PW and was able to get right into bitcoin. Oh finally got the payment that I sent to the USB last night almost 24 hrs later *with* "speed it up" payment. YAY! took forever to upload the blockchain. Now if I can only get this PW issue resolved then I think we have a bird that can fly.

How can I disable the screen from turning off when Im not at the miner? Im perfectly happy using the power button on the monitor, and I feel like the rates go down while the screen is sleeping, has anyone else noticed this or maybe a rise in hash rates? Thanks.

But no in fact I see mine stabilize when sleeping. http://94.197.185.117/monitor/bitcoinminer-1/bitcoinminer-1/phoenix_stats.htmlCheck out the hour I was away not working on the machine. A steady line on both GPU's as soon as I wake you see the wobbly lines at the end lol

That's some fancy graphs! I look forward to using them in 0.2 final. But if you disable the sleeping of the monitor, and leave the computer alone, do you get the same rates and stability? Or was the instability caused by your use of the computer? Maybe waking up the screen by moving the mouse causes a temporary drop in hashes causing the rate to be displayed lower than normal, but if the screen didnt wake up maybe it was going along at the fast rate? Also is there something I can use to analyze and generate some fancy graphs like this before using 0.2? Thanks.

Your more than likely seeing your hashrate decrease from your monitor waking up rather than loosing MH/s while sleeping. If anything it should improve stability. And yes you can install and configure munin from the package manager but I'd wait because the GPU and mining stuff is native to linuxcoin

Did not expect this one:
We just had a power outage and when I rebooted LinuxCoin BitCoin gives an error message and does not load.
Bit coin was running confirming a payment made to it at the time of power outage. I did not have time to backup the wallet.dat file.
Do I need to re-download the bitcoin client?

Well I've finally managed to find and email the wallet.dat file out for safekeeping
I am unsuccessful in deleting and/or upgrading bitcoin so far
Tomorrow I plan to re-format the USB, copy the old wallet.dat on top of the new one and hope for the best
From previous experience that will take the better part of a day or so

Ok so I re-created my USB, booted, deleted the wallet.dat, replaced with my backup wallet.dat and lo and behold it appears it just might be working!
It is currently downloading blocks and the original transactions are showing, but greyed out. Looking forward to them actually being there.
Fingers crossed!
It took about 1 1/2 hours to re-format and install the already downloaded files on to the USB
Then on to password fun to make sure no one else can use it. (I'm dreading this part)

This is a great blog Smalleyster. I especially loved the part where you wrote "Tomorrow I plan to re-format the USB," it was enthralling. Bravo.

Great news Smalleyster. There are much easier ways to keep your files I will add some info to the blog once it's online. Remember this OS is still being tested. The final version is expected the middle of next week I would ask if you are the last poster on a thread can you edit your post rather than re-posting ? It's just the more posts the harder it is for people to search through and find what they need. To everyone else. Would you like to see freedos and the ATI flashing tools added to the PXE boot menu ? I'm on the fence on if this will be helpful.

IMHO linuxcoin should have the features and tool to mine, things like flashing the bios is something that should be done before starting full time mining, using the tools that are already available out there, no point of making linuxcoin overly complicated. Also I though with Catalyst 11.6 it allowed overclock past bios limits, so is there still advantages of flashing?

Its not complicated for me to setup and you will have a extra boot menu option to boot into freedos with atiflash installed. I thought this might be handy for someone that has just bought a load of 6850's and want to batch unlock the shaders. You could just unlock one bios file and flash 100 in about a hour Just one example how this might be useful. But you do have a point How many people would I hear from with bricked cards hahaha

How many people would I hear from with bricked cards hahaha Guaranteed! The community is small enough that most can understand and at least figure out what they're doing. As it grows, that in-depth comprehension won't be as widespread. You could always make the BIOS flash image a separate supplemental download. It'd be great for an old 128Mb flash drive.

Agreed Ok I might add a additional download section to this. I've managed to make a small start on the website today. http://www.linuxcoin.co.ukWill be migrating everything over to php next. I just wanted to get a sudo layout on paper so to speak. Feedback is appreciated !!
