Well, this will stay a soggy dream in your mind americanpegasus

Linking Monero to statism of any kind is bad news. Linking it to the US loony left is suicide.

Well, i didn´t link any president to Monero since Monero is not in the control of any president. Honestly speaking, thinking of an "cryptofriendly" president at the moment speaking, would be like thinking that my wife is ok with polygamy  Shocked Roll Eyes

Why would you want Bernie Sanders to be at the forefront of Monero? Bernie isn't at all the poster child for this, because it would be against the Feds and private banks, which I would believe, that he is good with... Plus he's socialist, I thought the majority of XMR folks here were libertarians... spying and analysing your data is going to be his specialty.

Sorry, one last semi-off-topic political post since I just found this clip.  There was some discussion two pages ago about how Bernie would be bad for crypto (and Monero) and I disagreed.  I gave a link that showed he is staunchly against NSA spying, and I recently found this clip where he tears into Wall Street and the banks for abusing the money creation system:

https://youtu.be/WeZI3lhnOKg

I doubly stand by my statement that out of any possible candidate, Bernie would be *by far* the friendliest President for cryptocurrency.  Vote however you like, but it's important food for thought.  We will need the kind of people in power that can ease Monero's rise to dominance.

Well I mean since there are no other candidates on both sides of the table who are major contenders, from what I've seen, have yet to dive in on the privacy/NSA issue; then I guess he is out in the lead in that aspect. I just don't see how Rand says something about the dangers of NSA spending/dangers of private banks he is called a nut; but if Bernie says it he gets applauded. I haven't watched the video yet because I'm on the way to work.. But I assume the video says everything you said it did.

I think Sanders would be more understanding of Monero than Hillary.

Post # 10,000 is likely to happen in the next day or two. What are the celebration plans?

All the development talk recently has been encouraging. Confidential Transactions will make Monero even better!

So some are upset that Monero penetrated below the 1500 level, but as I said: all the altcoins are down on bitcoin's latest strength (thanks to Gemini) not just Monero.  In fact, Monero has actually fallen less than they.

Anything else I would say would just sound like bagholder support..... ah fuck it: cheap coinz!   Grin Grin Grin

Also, I find it interesting and fun that on military computers bitcointalk.org is fully accessible with no impediment whatsoever while even Reddit is not accessible in any usable form.  Military computers are usually notorious for locking down any website that even vaguely isn't needed for operations.   Tongue

Woah! I haven't seen this yet, is this for real or am I just dreaming?

Also, I'm kinda disappointed in my self for not buying a lot of Bitcoin at $200... I just bought my first Bitcoin last night at $256 and feel I waited too long. When I was purchasing monero I would just buy some bitcoins here and there to put into monero.. Now I feel I missed an opportunity to be able to enjoy the purchasing power it has now compared to then...

I guess my question is, are you guys going to wait a bit and see if you can get more bang for your Satoshi?

I think Trump would be the most understanding of Monero as he is certainly no stranger to transfering money offshore Wink, the best he or any gov could do is stay the heck away from it regulatorily (ignore) and thats the most we should hope.

I think people are geeking out about this post on the Monero subreddit and it's consequences.  I would like an easy way to ELI5 what that means vs. the original privacy features of Monero (for laymen): https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/3oi16k/ring_ct_for_monero_a_work_in_progress_comments/

If what I understand is correct this brings Monero up into a league where it possesses all the best features of zerocash with none of the drawbacks.

Also, I don't try to time bitcoin price.  I always assume every price is the lowest price because I just don't know - I only know it is bound to increase in the future.

Oh wait.. I thought the picture posted was an advertisement for a new iOS app for monero. My mistake.

And yeah, I understand that.. It's just that I feel a lot of people have an extra stash of bitcoins ready to purchase monero whenever the want. I just feel like I'm climbing an uphill battle to get a right amount of bitcoins/monero to feel comfortable.. You know?

I wish; that would be incredible.  An open-source iOS Monero wallet would be pretty fucking rad.... unfortunately I think we may still be a year or two away at least.

Bold my emphasis. This will not happen because Apple uses DRM to censor Free Libre Open Source Software. Also Apple has been steadily loosing market share in mobile (smartphone / tablet) from close to 100% a decade ago to under 39% today. https://netmarketshare.com/ This is in many ways similar the Apple's decline in the computer desktop from its peak in the late 1970's with the Apple II, to virtual oblivion by the late 1990's.

Edit: If Bitcoin is any indication the acceptance of Monero in the iTunes store should be considered a sell signal for Monero.

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

Why? Monerowallet runs fine on IOS; and der Monerowallet for android is using the Monerowallet code, just packed into a Cordova project. It´s just javascript which runs on any device.
This runs as well on iOS - but so far the Apple appstore disallowed crpytocurrency apps that aren´t Bitcoin; at least they did when i tried the last time.

And yet Fart Click III - The Clickening is just fine.

But I agree that if Apple is very capable of squandering their lead in the smartphone field, but don't underestimate the droves that know iPhone and like iPhone - they are the same who think Android is synonymous with those awful Samsung Galaxy phones (I default to this camp fairly often, sorry).

Network effect is real and powerful, and as always: Most people don't want freedom and choice; they want status, comfort, and shiny things.

Why's that? I've never really heard of that rule before? I mean if they would allow Bitcoin apps for wallets to be ok in their eyes.. That doesn't really make sense to ban everything else?

Updated paper on Ring Confidential Transactions (CT) for Monero -> https://github.com/ShenNoether/MiniNero/raw/master/RingCT0.3.pdf

Quote from: ShenNoether
Here is the version I was originally waiting to post with tag linkability sketched out reasonably completely.

ELI5: Next to hidden origins and destinations that are inherent to the Monero protocol (provided by ring sigs + stealthaddresses), this will also hide amounts, while viewkeys will still work, and of course it will still be auditable. (credits ShenNoether)

@AmericanPegasus, I hope you get the idea now :-)

Privacy matters, use Monero - A true untraceable cryptocurrency

I do, and if this is true, while also allowing the blockchain to be 'verifiable' (so if a coin-generating bug ever came into existence we would see something was wrong), then why would we ever need zerocash?  Would it still have any benefits?

Also, how likely/possible is this to implement into a Monero release?  Would it require a hardfork? (which isn't a problem since those are scheduled anyways)

Also, does anyone know if the sticky topic on the Monero Subreddit was edited with the latest version?  That seems important, and I'm not sure which account posted it initially.

Something like this would certainly require a hard fork to be implemented in a reasonable manner (if at all).
