Having nuclear weapons is indeed a very good security insurance (I bet Ukraine wouldn't have the problems it has now with Russia, if it didn't give up the big nuclear arsenal in 1994, in exchange for paper assurances on its territorial integrity, including from Russia). Possession of nuclear weapons don't guarantee anything. In addition to the nukes, you need sophisticated Intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), which can accurately target the enemy locations. As far as I know, Ukraine does not even possess a mid-range missile. Even if they get a few missiles from some other nation, the Russians will be able to shot down the missiles before they enter the Russian air-space, with their sophisticated S-300 and S-400 SAM batteries. doesn't matter, everyone around the world would be scared of you, especially if you were trying and trying (and getting better at it) like north korea is doing. i guess it would be a great way to make other people "pay you off." even though north korea can't get their nukes very far, no one would even deign to invade their country.

How is this big news though? What relevance does this have to anything? Just knowing that someone has access to the 183k now? if i were to guess, a few of those top spots could be owned by one person. i know i wouldn't put all my eggs in 1 basket if i had that much btc. maybe it was a consolidation.

for all the ancaps here who are pro capital punishment.. isn't that a conflict? the government is the one who decides who dies and who lives.

once you're a verified account, it'll be much smoother. i don't know how mtgox worked, but since bitcoin is nonreversible and ACH bank payments are, they want to make sure you don't run off with their money.

there are already a few escorts that accept bitcoins.. one of them was linked on reddit, and she's in LA. this one is pretty hot though, at least with the makeup.

imo living in a country like Iran while being a billionaire is pretty stoopid lol
not really. all you need is to be buddies with people in their government. make sure your "business model" includes them, and there's a good chance you will be safe.

I don't mind when capitol punishment is used in charges of murder/homicide. Death for white collar crimes is way overboard, imo.
iran is one of the five countries that kills its own people more than the U.S. does, so this doesn't come as a surprise. this kind of harsh punishment could be a great way of deterring billionaires with a lot of influence and power from doing the bad shit they do.. unlike in the U.S., where it's nearly impossible to go to jail if you're a wealthy banker or magnate.

no one institution or group of people have complete ownership on corruption and greed... except for the human race. ancaps seem to think that "government" is the lowest common denominator, but it's actually just human nature.

linking the bell curve of bitcoin's adoption with IQ points makes me cringe.. almost everything statistically follows the bell curve. i think that's a stretch. It's just a theory. No need to cringe, far better to test the theory against your own observations. You may be surprised at what you find. it seems like a tool to paint someone as "not worthy of your intelligence." that you and the people who you think are like you are on some higher plane of intelligence or status. IQ is also a terrible way to measure intelligence. I don't have a better one , but that doesn't make this one any better. interesting thing to me is that people with higher IQ tend to be more cynical/depressed. if you're so absolutely smart, then why do you choose to make yourself miserable? funny thing is that i found the bell curve pic at this link http://www.cracked.com/article_19174_5-unexpected-downsides-high-intelligence_p2.html

calling centralization "socialism" because there are corrupt people who want to gain seats of power.. is just plain ignorant fox noise level FUD.

well that's pretty fucked. as psycho as russia is as a nation, they would probably have thought twice about invading the ukraine if they had nuclear weapons. So going by that countries such as Libya and Iraq should have been armed with nuclear weapons, to prevent the Americans from invading them. And we should give nukes to North Korea as well. i'm not saying this country or that should be armed with nuclear weapons. but it does deter countries from invading your own. a nuclear weapon can be as much of a weapon as it is a defensive mechanism.

That is the whole point of socialism...bringing back the days of kings.
Not just socialism. Capitalism or society run by religious madman are no difference. exactly, the ancaps here are anti socialism and all, but i think capitalism leads to the same shit. but it's not just religion.. it's a system of government that rewards the sycophantic power hungry people.

i don't think that analogy works. getting off a beach before a tsunami comes is about preserving your life.. bitcoin is about your finances. and besides, bitcoin is not a sure thiing.

how are the transactions counted though? if it's tracked base on wallet to wallet, then that doesn't necessarily mean a transaction. i could move 50 bitcoins to another address, and none of that would have been considered "spent." most paypal funds that move are considered spent money, as in they change hands.

once you're out of newbie stage, which is by this tuesday (and u have to make more than 14 posts), you don't need to worry about this anymore. it's just to prevent spammers and newbs from sullying up the forum.
I think you are out of newbie stage from 30 activity which is 30 posts minimum but If you are talking about the wait time I think after 16 activity It decreases a lot but you still have to wait some time before posting or searching. yeah you're right, that was recently changed. used to be different.. newbies had to post in the newbies section only.

i kind of like having my desktop.. i can pretty much diagnose and fix any issue if a component breaks. on a laptop, it's really hard to change the parts and all. 24" screen is cool too.
in the U.S., you can buy an i5 loaded laptop for $400-$500 though.
|
|
|
No, the screen was dodgy, but it's the rest of the laptop that's now not working. I doubt simply replacing the screen will magically make it boot up. What makes you think it's the video card?
i don't think it's the video card. i think most likely your laptop is fried. it could be your power supply that's faulty, especially if your battery is showing signs of wear. if you plug it in and leave the laptop off, do you see any LED lights that turn on? too bad you're in europe, where latops cost more might as well open the thing up.. probably not very difficult. There was one light that occasionally blinked when it's off and not plugged in (not now though). I don't know what good opening it up will do. I've opened plenty up before but it's not like I could visually spot the problem, and everytime I take them apart something else seems to break haha. Got two other faulty laptops that are currently in worse condition than when I opened them up to get the harddrives out haha. well the thing is that your battery is probably no longer working, so it's either your power supply/adapter, or something on your circuit board is fried. if it's a cheap laptop then it's probably not worth messing with.
