1741  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Western Union Invests in Digital Currency Group on: April 30, 2016, 08:07:05 AM
Western Union, whose business model of money transfer could be under threat from bitcoin, is one of the new investors in Digital Currency Group (DCG). DCG is an investment firm focusing on the bitcoin blockchain technology space.

Could this herald changing times?
About Digital Currency Group

Digital Currency Group was set up in October 2015 to focus on investments in the nascent bitcoin and blockchain technology space. Its portfolio of investments includes 70 companies across 22 countries.

It has 3 subsidiaries – Genesis, Grayscale and CoinDesk. The CEO and Founder of DCG is Barry Silbert, who had earlier founded SecondMarket.

The amount invested by Western Union in DCG has not been disclosed.

Hahaha I can't stop laughing at.

Laughing at who? Western Union? or Digital Currency Group?
Western Union should actually look at acquiring fintech companies, not just passively invest in them.

I suppose this is the first step. You never know, they might have been already on the lookout for companies that are worthy to buy.
1742  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russian Law Would Send Bitcoin Users to Jail as Cybercriminals on: April 30, 2016, 08:05:35 AM
5 pages of rambling and it appears most people are blindly believing a crappy media story where the source is yet another crappy media source which links to another crappy source that has mis-interpretted the whole saga.

in short they want to licence it. where people are required to register and become compliant. unlicenced exchanges will receive a small fine and large business institutions will get mega fines. and if they are found directly linked to terrorism, etc. then its prison time.

the real funny thing is that russia is actually going to be using blockchain technology. so before you all blindly think that russia is against crypto currency please do your research.

but i know you wont read the real sources so lets atleast link you to your favourite shamedia, because you would probably believe them first

Thanks for the quote, saved me the time reading most of the posts.

Buh Bye Yobit. You have until may 24 to remove all your coins from the exchange or kiss them goodbye forever.  Kiss

Never knew Yobit was a Russian exchange?

@ontopic Regulation is really keeping up with the bitcoin space. This was expected, makes the playing field level for the exchangers. The next thing regulators should go after are the fake volumes that's becoming a common practice among these guys.
1743  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The British government is considering paying out research grants with bitcoin on: April 29, 2016, 01:54:25 AM
The United Kingdom is the leading country in Finance Technologies startups. The legal framework there allows innovation to prosper. That why Bitcoin and Ethereum ecosystems will grow rapidly there.
My friend from UK wanted to buy bitcoin from some UK based exchange, to no avail. It is crazy hard with their banking regulations to buy bitcoins fast and fees on their exchanges are horrendous.
From my experience I found it is easier to buy bitcoins in Russia that in UK.

correct. the UK is a fucking disgrace compared to almost anywhere else for buying and using bitcoin. just goes to show the power of banking when they refuse to play.

Why didn't he/she trade using LocalBTC?

@ontopic - I'm supposing this is an experiment.  Grin
1744  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2015-16 Play-Off Discussion on: April 28, 2016, 04:16:54 PM
Although Boston Celtics is at home but always this thing doesn't work.Atlanta Hawks most likely to meet Cleveland Cavaliers in quarter finals.I am placing on money this is my expectation.Over 199 points this time @2.040 as both teams again began to score points.

ATL is quite inconsistent this playoffs, just like how they were last year when they faced the CAVs. They're struggling vs a team that's supposedly still rebuilding.
1745  Economy / Speculation / Re: $500 at the beginning of May ? on: April 28, 2016, 11:03:57 AM
The price is now indeed rising slowly but it is not rising that fast it needs time to rise otherwise it will be not possible for the currency to have a high profit later.
So we need the patience for it and you also dont even know what can happen later in the future.

It's back to $445 now, with still weakening buy support. I suppose everyone bought during the price standstill a few weeks ago, no one wants to buy now even with the rise.
1746  Economy / Digital goods / S> C.A.T. Cryptocurrency AutoTrader Lifetime License 0.3฿ on: April 28, 2016, 08:19:09 AM
Hi, I'm selling my copy of Cryptocurrency AutoTrader, a great bot developed by a reputable member of the community here at bitcointalk.

Reason for selling: I need money right now.

Here's the link to the BOT: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=507103.0

Notes: The BTC0.30 would only be for the core bot. Please see the link above for the API costs which are from the developer.

Also note that since I used the free APIs of Yobit and TheRockTrading, this would not be available for use unless you'd pay for the API change fees which is BTC0.15 to the developer - I'd have to clear this out with the dev.

Drop me a pm if you're interested.

Regards,
1747  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Decentralized AirBnB and Uber -- somebody's really working on it! on: April 27, 2016, 03:10:29 PM
That's good if they start accepting bitcoin payments as well. This way bitcoin will become more mainstream.

However, I don't really understand how being decentralized will help them operating?? It will be a massacre if no central agency is operating their daily business and we, general people will be the worst sufferers.

Any business model they have published yet??

True, I currently don't see the need for open ledgers and decentralization in the industry. Let's just wait for the product then, hopefully it'll not be like OpenBazaar that took quite a long time before release.
1748  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Most Exciting Bitcoin Projects! on: April 27, 2016, 06:48:33 AM
I heard Brave's been under fire from large publishers, do they have a time table as to when they can release the Ad revenue sharing scheme?
1749  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2015-16 Play-Off Discussion on: April 27, 2016, 06:44:50 AM
I think west will be dominant to win the title again this year I don't see any team from east can defeat the full power of cavs trio but doesn't enough to win against the three big teams of west hahaha. I personally bet for san antonio because curry is not 100% fit for this seasons championship title and w/out him it will easy for both san antonio or okc to defeat the gsw. good luck and san antonio fans cheer up guys.

Ya the only threat in the east is the cavs although i am still for hornets to make it to the finals, none theless i will go for the spurs to go for the finals.
They may have 3 grandfathers there but there youngsters are also becoming a threat especially there sf kawaii leonard.
Only cavs are guaranteed to win in the East final, they are the only team which are full of talents and veteran players. I think the match up for the east that is fun to watch is between miami heat and cavs. This will probably generate a good rating.

Toronto and Atlanta can do that too. Lebron's not as dominant as he was during his days back in the Heat and his previous run with the Cavs. At this point the East is already up for the grabs, unlike the west, where GSW and Spurs reign supreme. OKC too, now that the Clips are surely out.
1750  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2015-16 Play-Off Discussion on: April 26, 2016, 05:34:15 PM
CP3's broken hand is a real disappointment. I always thought Clips can take on the GSW, but with Paul out the task seems impossible, unless Steph would sit a lot longer than 2 weeks.
1751  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin value is 440+ on: April 26, 2016, 05:21:01 PM
Guys did you see the price today? The new goal is come and i think sooner the price will increase to 450 soon Just wait a patience before sell our coins on markets...
The Bitcoin value is now $400+ but if the halving does come in the price is going to drop. The Bitcoins will then be cheaper and this can attract allot of people and may even convince them in buying Bitcoins.

The hype is real, price is rising and at $467 now. Probably $500 by the end of the first week of May? It's real possible.
1752  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTC Jam is an absolute joke on: April 26, 2016, 05:16:44 PM
Haven't really tried BTC Jam coz I went to the BitLendingClub (LoanBase) route. But yeah, same experience, a lot of A listers in the site's grading are the ones who defaulted in the loans I invested. I suppose it's an industry problem, the btc lending space still isn't so mature.
1753  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2015-16 Play-Off Discussion on: April 26, 2016, 02:48:07 AM
A GG game now for the Rockets next game, 4-1.

Feel sad for my fave team Mavs although the outcome of this series is really quiet predictable.

Will put a bucket for this game for Mavs @ 10.5.

Steph would be out again for 2 weeks, so there's this chance that this GSW-HOU series can get to 4-2.  Grin Grin Grin

Even if GSW wins the series w/o Steph, if no other series gets to game 7 it'll be difficult for them to handle the Clips w/o Curry.
1754  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many people are actually using OpenBazaar? on: April 26, 2016, 02:41:29 AM
I've explored quite a bit into the marketplace, and I was only able to find profiles and moderators, mostly empty listings. I'm supposing there are still a lot of bugs, like I can't even find my own listing I'm seeding on a VPS.
1755  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Shapeshift coming back on: April 25, 2016, 04:53:09 PM
More altcoins have been added for exchange, that is good to see, hope shapeshift can add in dogecoin as soon as possible, thank you Cheesy

Good to see they're slowly getting back in business. There aren't too much of customer damage so I guess they'll have their real good rep back. They'd have to double up on spending for advertising to get customers though.
1756  Other / Off-topic / Re: 2017 Year of the Bitcoin on: April 25, 2016, 04:13:43 PM
I guess 2017 has the potential to put all the scalability crap behind us. That's a biggie and the way will be a lot clearer. Other than that I can't really think why it's going to be a wonderful year but I'll wait to be surprised.

Then there'll be a new fiasco much like this year. It could be centralization of mining among a few players, since after the halving the only players that could possibly remain are the Chinese - that is if the price doesn't cope up with the difficulty.
1757  Economy / Speculation / Re: $500 at the beginning of May ? on: April 25, 2016, 10:30:02 AM
No don't think so.
We had a nice run the last9 days. From 426 to ~460. Don't get to greedy!
Let's try to stay in that range for a while before trying to climb the $500.

Agree, I'm also thinking this would a set of movements each with a higher floor, like what we've been seeing through the past weeks. Then probably a spike right before the halving. Anyway the thing is, let's just enjoy the ride.  Grin Grin Grin
1758  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's stopping people from using bitcoin? on: April 25, 2016, 05:54:37 AM
It could also be argued that there's no overwhelming reason for people to start using it.

Sure some are here to make money, some for ideological reasons, some because they love the tech, but what stops many people is the utter lack of a motivational reason to get involved.

True, unless there's an instance in which they're forced to use the tech. Take for example the Greece financial crisis not long ago, a lot of Greeks jumped in to bitcoin space to protect their assets.
1759  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2015-16 Play-Off Discussion on: April 25, 2016, 03:37:12 AM
With Step Curry back in the lineup, I feel Golden State will beat the Rockets today on the road and go up 3-1 in the series.

Rockets were lucky to escape game 3 with a win.. Harden's shot at the end shouldn't of counted and was missed by refs!! Rockets are lucky to even win one game in this series!

Golden State is a good combo/parlay bet today on the moneyline today.  Wink

GSW was so lucky last year, this year they aren't. That Curry injury again? 1 more and they'll be out of the playoffs.
