Uggh, Alright, Im in, I'll use the epic CGminer without a GUI.
It's just such a pain in the ass to learn a new dictionary of commandlines
is thier a lovely noobfriendly guide? Or is it simple enough to figure out with the info provided on the front page i need to read more

cgminer's command line was way easier for me to pickup than some of the other miners I tried. You can also build the config completely inside the miner and not worry about flags. I highly recommend using a config over starting cgminer with a ton of flags.

Well at least I know it's not my code at fault. Shame though...
Not necessarily implying your code is at fault, but a data point: here, no seg fault with 2.0.8, seg fault with 2.1.0, no driver change. Catalyst 11.6, Ubuntu 11.04. Can you, in whatever command line window, set "ulimit -c unlimited", then execute a new instance of cgminer and quit that at once (it should print something like "segmentation violation: core dumped"). You can do that without stopping any other running cgminer instances you may have. There should then be a file called "core" in whatever directory you're in. After this, execute "gdb path/to/cgminer core" and in gdb first execute "bt" and then "bt full", and post the results here? My suspicion is/was that cgminer now triggers some bug in the AMD opencl driver which it didn't before, but if it is only a catalyst problem, it should occur for ckolivas, too (assuming he still uses 11.6).

Start command prompt (Run -> cmd) and then type or paste in (right-click -> paste, Ctrl + V doesn't work) the filepath for cgminer.exe, then add all the tags (-o (for pool address and port), -u (for worker name), -p (worker password)). It shouldn't close even if something goes wrong, so you'll see what message it gives you. Regarding the Q bug - it wasn't present on my system in version 2.0.8.

His miner isn't working at the moment so he can't get ANY OpenCL to run or crash. I succeeded in getting it to crash today and yep it was in the ATI driver when it crashed - after all the shutdown code had completed also. Edit: however, who cares? My last 6h 21m 45s (only 724.63MHs) of hashing = 3786 Shares Accepted, 1 Rejected That's an all time low score record for me! (0.0264%) I also have the option "--submit-stale" enabled so that makes that number truly amazing IMO. (and I'm mining 2 pools not just 1)

This is not what you wanted; gdb complains about the core file; something's missing: brec@ubuntu:~/miners/cgminer$ ulimit -c unlimited brec@ubuntu:~/miners/cgminer$ ./start.sh [2011-12-29 08:05:59] Started cgminer 2.1.0 [2011-12-29 08:06:01] Long-polling activated for http://us.eclipsemc.com:9009/LP [2011-12-29 08:06:05] Accepted 00000000.2d99f6fd.75adf0e9 GPU 2 thread 2 pool 2 GPU2 39.5C 4499RPM | (5s):331.7 (avg):7717.5 Mh/s | A:1 R:0 HW:0 U:600.00/m I:9 [2011-12-29 08:06:05] Accepted 00000000.dc0e6fa8.92e05d8a GPU 0 thread 0 pool 0 GPU0 39.5C 4530RPM | (5s):333.8 (avg):11744.1 Mh/s | A:1 R:0 HW:0 U:600.00/m I:9 [2011-12-29 08:06:06] Accepted 00000000.0571fbb8.8357d774 GPU 3 thread 3 pool 0 GPU3 36.5C | (5s):331.9 (avg):7717.5 Mh/s | A:1 R:0 HW:0 U:600.00/m I:9 q[2011-12-29 08:06:08] Accepted 00000000.d380e8b8.604fe453 GPU 3 thread 3 pool 0 GPU3 37.0C | (5s):337.0 (avg):292.9 Mh/s | A:2 R:0 HW:0 U:22.77/m I:9 [2011-12-29 08:06:08] Accepted 00000000.f779248b.8d5528c7 GPU 2 thread 2 pool 2 GPU2 41.5C 4483RPM | (5s):464.4 (avg):394.7 Mh/s | A:2 R:0 HW:0 U:22.77/m I:9 [2011-12-29 08:06:10] Accepted 00000000.d086e605.b674ab68 GPU 2 thread 2 pool 2 GPU2 42.5C 4499RPM | (5s):385.0 (avg):471.1 Mh/s | A:3 R:0 HW:0 U:34.15/m I:9 ./start.sh: line 5: 23833 Segmentation fault (core dumped) DISPLAY=:0 cgminer -c cgminer.conf 2> logs/$now.log brec@ubuntu:~/miners/cgminer$ gdb core GNU gdb (Ubuntu/Linaro 7.2-1ubuntu11) 7.2 Copyright (C) 2010 Free Software Foundation, Inc. (and I'm mining 2 pools not just 1) I am experiencing the crash on Fedora 15 as well, and the only thing changed is the cgminer version. I agree that it wouldn't matter if it always happened after the shutdown code completed, however, it happened before the shutdown code completed the second time I experienced it, so I couldn't see how many shares I had submitted.

Another voice added to the increasing murmur:
In response to Q, after normal/complete console and log output:
./start.sh: line 5: 9166 Segmentation fault DISPLAY=:0 cgminer -c cgminer.conf 2> logs/$now.log
2.1.0 on Ubuntu 11.04
Same here.

During the above period, web browsing from another system on the LAN seemed normally snappy. Last night, I couldn't find any evidence that Eclipse was down, but I added BitMinter as a backup. That (based on above) indicates it's not a pool problem. I (Q)uit cgminer, but that didn't yield me a console prompt. Ctrl-C was merely echoed as ^C with no other effect. So I rebooted and now all seems normal.

I get similar behavior when I load balance. I also saw this with 2.0.8 when load balancing. But pressing Q always worked for me, as well as it works in Windoze that is. Sam

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text. Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing? A: Top-posting. Q: What is the most annoying thing on usenet and in e-mail?

I should mention that I'm using: "failover-only" : true,

Uggh, Alright, Im in, I'll use the epic CGminer without a GUI.
It's just such a pain in the ass to learn a new dictionary of commandlines
is thier a lovely noobfriendly guide? Or is it simple enough to figure out with the info provided on the front page i need to read more
cgminer's command line was way easier for me to pickup than some of the other miners I tried. You can also build the config completely inside the miner and not worry about flags. I highly recommend using a config over starting cgminer with a ton of flags. "Q: GUI version? A: No. The RPC interface makes it possible for someone else to write one though." Yeaaahhhh thats where im going to need help. So far, After i hit enter when i fill in my pass the whole CGminer window (win764bit) just spews Something down then goes BlankOh windows... I'm sorry *snickers* Yeah... I just cant bring myself to Linux, I've seen so many Collossally amazing things done Via linux, BUT ALL THE COMMAND LINES, Fuck it'd be like relearning all of computers again x.x I've seen cars do some awesome things, but ALL THOSE PEDALS, Fuck I'll stick with my horse. :p LOL Great analogy, But you dont have a car, You have a bike, But yes, I do have a horse. Anyone else had this problem with CGminer? I'd really like to use it, But it just keeps going Black

If you're waiting a few seconds after it goes black/blank for it to start showing info, ignore this reply.

1) Be sure to open a command prompt window (don't try to launch from explorer) to see any error messages. 2) Try setting pool, username, password from the command line. (example included in first post).
