Got another feature request for the API. 2 in fact:
1) be able to read the worker name of a pool over the API When using multiple workers for things like GPUmax, its currently impossible to distinguish between them. I can understand password being hidden, but the username is even visible on the screen, so why not expose at least the worker name over the API when calling the "pools" command ?
2) ability to delete pools over the API. This has been discussed before, but its possible to do it in the CLI, it would be great if this were enabled over the API too; its one of the last things an alternate GUI using the API cant do.
Ill pledge 2.5 BTC for each feature if they make it into the mainline.

Something smells fishy right here. Can you say botnet I knew that people were selling a version of cgminer branded as "iMiner" with both CPU and GPU mining ability. Pretty sad thing to steal ckolivas' work and brand it as a botnet miner for $10.

One of the main reasons I stopped including it was the lack of adequate donations. I have earned about .2BTC from people donating for CPU mining, and approximately 1000 times that for GPU mining development. How much are you offering? I doubt you'll be able to offer me enough to make me interested, but if you do, sure, I'll build you a binary and make it available for everyone to download (I don't do things in secrecy).

Given the effort required to deal with bug reports and the inevitability of being associated with antivirus software by re-enabling CPU mining, it's not worth it for 2BTC. I'll pass.

I have amazing result after figuring how to OC memory and GPU clock. I will wait all night to make sure it is stable and tomorow I may try overvolting.
My 5870 is now at 1400/1020 temp:65C and 5850 at 1125/775 temp:58C with stock voltage.
I have read that I can damage my card by overvolting. Is it like a lottery or if I get past the limit my card will burn?

Provided you do not overvolt and your temperatures are still safe, you cannot damage your cards just by changing the clocks. Overvolting is not worth it as your power consumption rises much more than the hashrate does. Try undervolting instead. See how low you can go while keeping your overclock speeds.

I said I wouldn't do any of this in secrecy yet I only got a response in private message as follows, which I quote here for the record: ill pay you 2btc up front and continue to donate a lot more through the btc that i make through this. also, if you could make it so it retains desktop interactivity like with the gpu mining that would be a huge plus. why would antiviruses be a problem just because u added the cpu mining feature?? what price were you looking for for all of that? I would maintain CPU mining for maybe 2 BTC per week donations on top of this. Assuming you donated 1% of your total hashrate from CPU mining for this, you would need to earn 200 BTC per week. Assuming an average PC gets 10mhash/s you would need to be running about 5000 PCs to be able to donate just 2 BTC per week.

Why must CPU mining be in cgminer? It is easier to just use Pooler's fork of jgarzik's miner, since it is fast and purpose built.

I would prefer that you NEVER go back to CPU mining being enabled. Any individual cannot make a profit on CPU mining alone unless they are not paying for electricity. Even then, the profit for any one person would be minimal. The only way it makes logical sense to use CPU mining is if you have access to hundreds or thousands of CPUs that you don't pay power for, and don't care if they burn up. This whole thing screams of someone asking for it back for the sole purpose of operating a botnet, or something similar.

Which is precisely why I'm having this discussion in the open... The discussion serves a "different purpose". You don't seriously expect me to build CPU mining back into cgminer do you?

Any idea why cgminer would spit this out on start up? Testing atm on 8 boxes all similar win7 with cayman gpus and only 1 spits out this error all the others are working exceptionally well. That's a crash in the driver. Possibly a corrupt installation or mixed components from different drivers +/- SDKs.

I would be more concerned about the environmental issue of using many CPUs to mine BTC. The amount of electricity used to CPU mine Bitcoins is almost 2 orders of magnitude higher than GPU mining BTC. In this day and age where people are often environmentally concious of their actions, CPU mining to try and make anything but a pittance of BTC is just so totally unacceptable for so many reasons that I would consider it would be ideal to actually set limitations in the code to how much mining it would do in such circumstances The only acceptable use IMO at the moment is for testing (which is what I used to use it for also: windows testing - but since I now have Icarus' that can easily be moved from one machine to another, that's no longer even an issue for me either)

Any individual cannot make a profit on CPU mining alone unless they are not paying for electricity. Problem with this logic is that you're assuming all mining is done for profit. I find CPU mining very handy for testing without messing with my FPGAs.
