thinking of upgrading my PSU. just want to verify that 1000W will be enough to power 4 modules? (assuming that either Avalon will start selling upgrade modules or clones will become available eventually)
Also, I'm looking at getting seasonic 1050XM -- anyone have any real-life experience or opinions of this PSU?

Thanks. How do I control the timeout stuff? I get way more rejects now but hashrate (MSHav) is up.

Firmware Comparison and Best Settings Results
Batch 1 Avalon with upgraded power supply Corsair AX860iI wanted to conduct this test with 100% Fan settings. So I used the custom built firmware as a baseline prior to upgrading to the official Cgminer Avalon firmware release. Below is screen shots of 1 hour for cgminer official release provided by ckolivas and 1 day unofficial firmware results. I compare both firmware types at 345, 350, and 355 speed settings. You can calculate your own system performance by taking the total accepted shares and divide it by the total hours or total minutes. Results after 1 hour at 100% fan, speed setting 345 running cgminer 3.3.1 official release with custom fan speed, temp cutoff, custom system speed options.
69696 Accepted shares 1 hour duration at speed setting 345 = 1161.6 accepted shares per minute.[/size] cgminers official release 20130627 is the Best performance per watt. Results for the unofficial release after 1 Day (24 hrs) at 100% fan, speed setting 345 and 355 running strombom firmware running the old cgminer 3.1.1 with the limited speed options and fan speed is always 100%. 1648544 Accepted shares 24 hour duration at speed setting 345 = 68689 accepted shares per hour or 1144.8 accepted shares per minute.1702544 Accepted shares 24 hour duration at speed setting 355 = 70939 accepted shares per hour or 1182.3 accepted shares per minute.

You don't. It is set automatically according to frequency by cgminer now. Thanks. How do I control the timeout stuff? I get way more rejects now but hashrate (MSHav) is up.

Is this really the best, most reliable measure? DiffA/time?

This gives me the best power to performance watts to accepted shares over time. in the case of pool mining you get paid by accepted shares.

Am I correct in assuming that ckolivas firmware is meant to replace the strombom and the official Avalon releases?

Weird that sometimes it needs a good swift kick up the bum to get going (like restarting it twice). Try the regular 282 default perhaps to start out? With auto it will climb over time anyway.

PSU has about 80% efficiency which means that 4 Modules will consume about 757W (710*0.8/3*4) at OUTPUT. PSU is rated what it can supply in OUTPUT not what it consumes in input. If you measure 4 modules at Input (plug) you will see that they will consume about 757 +0.2*757 = 908W So once again 850W rated PSU is fine Just to be on safe side check what is max Amparage that 12V rail can provide. It has to be greater than 757/12=63Amps. Most modern PSU's will do that. Having 1000W psu with weak 12V rail < 63AMPS (just an example) will cause magic smoke to come out In short watch PSU Output Wats + !!!!!12v Rail AMPS!!!!!

Avalon running latest firmware 06272013 at 365 speed setting takes 730 Watts at the wall. 70176 accepted shares per hour or 1165.7 shares a minute.
