For cg miner 3.7.2 are there any saved logs that I can view that shows when cg miner started and when it stopped running? I want to know this so I know exactly how much electricity it is costing me.

Try running it from the command prompt. All the stuff that scrolls before the page closes should be visible. Other than that if its got api support you could always run cgwatcher and thats got a bunch of reports that it shows while cgminers running,... though I use it for my crashing problems that haven't been resolved yet to keep cgminer going.

If you only use a single pool like eclipsemc (which I'm referencing for features and not recommending), which I believe has fields you can fill in to get an estimate on use and cost.

Good luck

I've been told also that libusb is bad because it bypasses the official drivers for most of the chips used in ASICs.

Yeah, the USB driver decision was, and still is, mind boggling.  Hotplug is pointless - any serious miner will never need hotplug on their USB miners.

Well, according to YouTube, this forum is notorious for trolls.

After conversations with Luke-Jr, I've been told that ckolivas cannot work in a team, kano cannot work in a team, and that kano makes bad technical decisions and ckolivas backs them.

I've been told also that libusb is bad because it bypasses the official drivers for most of the chips used in ASICs.

So let me see if I understand this. Con and Kano can not work in a team yet they do work as a team.  Odd the one doing his own thing worries about team work.....

Libusb does avoid the ftdi driver. I am not as sure its the "official" driver but it is definitely the standard driver. All that driver does is make a fake serial port to communicate on. It isn't really better. Direct hardware access can be scary I suppose for some people. I like the idea that cgminer avoids yet another layer of abstraction between it and the hardware. Still everyone has some preference.

I really do like the hotplug ability that libusb added. Maybe no one else does. Even there you have to change a driver to get a feature. I'm not sure it is a big loss or mind boggling. I was glad they did make cgminer more similar between Linux and Windows. Then again I switched to Linux for my serious mining so I suppose to each their own.

I really like the direct USB as well.  Fighting with USB Serial drivers is the biggest headache I've had in my day job with supporting customers.  The direct USB has always worked great for me.  Most of the problems I see is people insisting on using serial drivers with CGMiner when it no longer needs them.

A search on this thread with cgminer and scrypt returns only 16 pages. A google search covers the subject as a second hit. At this point it is obvious you have not tried. Good luck in getting where you want to go.

Odd the one doing his own thing worries about team work.....
I was left "doing my own thing" because Con and Kano were unwilling to continue collaborating.
And BFGMiner now has more contributors than cgminer, just FWIW.

I really do like the hotplug ability that libusb added. Maybe no one else does. Even there you have to change a driver to get a feature. I'm not sure it is a big loss or mind boggling.
Hotplug is definitely a good feature to have, IMO. But there is nothing about it that requires bypassing the official drivers. BFGMiner does hotplug just fine with any USB, VCOM, or HID device, and will automatically trigger it in the next version.

Fighting with USB Serial drivers is the biggest headache I've had in my day job with supporting customers.
I'm curious as to what you had to fight? The VCOM drivers just automatically work/install in most cases...

Dear Viceroy,
Not quoting the entire post is non-sensible as others can and have read the fully quoted response. Just trying to help you get a life. Instead of reading 720 pages and making an excuse why you need to bash developers of free to use and or not to use software. You have nothing to gain by cherry picking but to fully declare that you are acting like a spoiled Troll. Pretending you have nothing to gain from looking elsewhere makes you an ignoramus. Good day to you and may the fleas of a thousand camels infest your crotch.

I was referring to experience with end user customers with legacy vertical market applications and not mining.  My experience has been when a customer reboots his laptop or plugs the USB to Serial dongle into a different USB port then Windoze assigns it a different com port.  Which caused me sometimes hours on the phone trying to walking customers through figuring out what the port number is an correcting the configuration.

I didn't even want to go down that road with a bunch of BE's and a  Jalapeno.  So I didn't.  And I have been happy with my results.

Hey regardless what end result program I use  I'm asking if in a future update this program can have the ability to have load balance as a percent and not as shares. I'm just thinking I may be hindering my mining abilities more by trying to calculate on my own how many shares I should allocate to a specific coin.

Thanks

Slightly off-topic here, but you could get BFGMiner support if they send nwoolls a sample one.

If you want a % its really easy. Say you want a 45% and 55% split. Just use either 9 and 11 or 45 and 55.... 9 and 11 is just least common multiple I could see quickly. Any % is easy to do. Just use the whole numbers or if you want a decimal I suppose you could use 3 digits but there may be a lot of time between shares going to a different pool.

This statement is mine and was not suggested by any developer. Still it should work beautifully.

You have it backward.

So you're saying kano and ckolivas stole software from you?

Naw what he is saying is that he as part of a group made some code contributions. Some code was his some was other peoples. The result was cgminer running fpgas.  He Seems sure that as a good team player its now all his......

Ignoring several code rewrites including direct usb rather then serial etc. Anyways he feels entitled too all the glory for the whole project.

Seriously though he's going to gloat about a feature I have personally used for more then a year on cgminer being on his fork at the next release. Wow talk about being ahead of the pack. Or was it behind the times......
