anyone tried removing the rear panel for batch 1 and lowers temp?
I have removed for batch#3 and lowered temperature by 2C. The presure felt when keeping panel with the hand was pretty substantial. I'm sure that if the slots were larger and beveled on the inside too it would have been better.
You might give it a try, it's not even necessary to power down the machine if you're careful and don't mind back panel to lye captive by the power cord.

I cringe at the thought of one of those metal nuts bouncing onto the pdu board.

Neah, you'll just test PSU's short-circuit protection circuitry Smiley

You might use the more option field for this, just append 4th pool setting to your avalon options, such as

Quote
--real-quiet --avalon-auto -o stratum+tcp://stratum.btcguild.com:3333 -O ur_worker_name:123456

Didn't tried it, but it should work.  Why do you need 4th pool?

Is my Avalon broken? I received mine after the time window said on the usb chip issue, seems like I was dumb not to check, now on vacation and far away from home, and my friend is helping at home. It worked fine for 2 month now at 350 mhz and started to act wierd yesterday.
With the built in router it seems to work for about 20 min and then stops working. On a computer I get the following in cgminer when i try to mine with it:

Bus 002 Device 011: ID 0403:6001 Future Technology Devices International, Ltd FT232 USB-Serial (UART) IC

Seems like the chips kinda still answer.

oh yeah. Its a 3 module one, and cgminer wants per default at the computer to start with 32 miners (like a 4 module one).

My friend near the avalon had to go, but will later open it up and check the controller board for version and for any molten chips. He also said he heard a kinda clicking sound, not directly from the power supply as far as he could locate.

Do you guys think its more a controller board issue or is it the power supply?

thx already for answers,

I am hosting a 4th module.  I want to point it to eligius's pool with it's own payout address.  The only way I can think to do this is to have 3 miners point to 1 address, and the 4th miner point to the other address.

I try to be respectful and informed.

Few questions. (if there is an faq, please direct me)
1, Mutliple coin mining, i remember seeing a pool, which mines namecoins and litecoins along with bitcoins on the avalon.
Would it be any idea to do so? i mean, namecoins and litecoins are currently cheap, so getting a few a day might be a good idea or does it steal too much from valuable bitcoins?
2, is it safe to run a b2 3 module on 355 in a fully hosted datacenter with 20 degrees airconditioned space?
3, is there a simple way, to share payments among many addresses automatically? (a pool that splits payments automatically)
4, why should i choose btcguild or any of the famous pools above eligius? Btcguild is 3%, and eligius is free, but takes a while to pay out, however, 3% is not peanuts!

Appreciate any answers you could provide.

Mining Namecoin/Bitcoin and Litecoin at the same time is Impossible!

Namecoin and Bitcoin are sha-256 based chains and can be merged minined, Litecoin on the other hand is scrypt based and can never be mined at the same time as Bitcoin nor can it be mined by FPGA`s or ASIC`s like an Avalon.

Regarding the size of PSU, I had 3 module Asic running for a week with 750w PSU. After that the PSU died (it was almost new).
Now, I know some people here have been saying that 750W is too small PSU, even for the 3 module unit. Clearly that is the case, I just couldn't believe it. So be mindful of this when choosing PSU's.

750W is OK.
From time to time hardware breaks, especially when running near max specs continuously.

That is exactly what PsychoticBoy states: you can mine both NMC and BTC at the same time (BTCguild does it too) but you can't mix BTC and LTC as they use a different algo for the proof of work

@ckolivas   Are you doing anything to cap the system at 450Mhz?   Im running stable at 450 but as soon as I bump to 451Mhz it fails to start mining?

PS: I am running at 1336mv and watercooled...

Thanks!

You're running stable at 450? Amazing... Yes there is a cap at 450 in the code.

Yes perfectly stable .49% hw error at 41c Batch3

could you lift that 450 limit easily?
